If I make a booking (basic economy) on AA before 6-30-2020 to fly before 9-30-2020, can I cancel and then use the free change to book a more expensive flight during peak season?

they dont charge a change fee but you still have to pay the fare difference

i read uniteds rules and it says you now have 12 months to spend the ticket not 24 . Am i reading it wrong?
You can also refund to a travel certificate valid 24 months.

You can add CLT, BNA, RSW, AUS to cheap flights out of EWR. All under $26 on many dates.
FREE would be much too cheap. You couldn’t pay me enough to get on an airplane right now. Simply not worth the risk.
