As always you get 2 free checked bags if booked on Southwest.com. Plus you can cancel revenue tickets with no charge and use the funds for a future flight. Point reservations can be cancelled for free with the points redeposited.
If you have previously booked Southwest tickets with cash or points and the price has gone down be sure to go online to make a change or call to get a refund for the difference!
When Southwest has a sale the points needed for a free flight also go on sale as Rapid Rewards is a revenue based program. A one-way short-haul flight can be had for just 2,273 points-a value of 1.91 cents per point
You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points instantly to Southwest at a 1:1 ratio.
If you have a Chase Ink Plus or Ink Cash buying Southwest gift cards at Staples.
If you have a Southwest companion pass your paid and free travel would be effectively doubled, so you would have $10,000 worth of paid flights plus $3,630 of free flights from points…but that would take a whole lot of Southwest travel! You can get a companion pass from earning 110,000 points from sources like the Chase Southwest credit card or transfers from hotels programs like Hyatt (50K Chase=50K Hyatt=30K Southwest)

You can change the booking online for the difference; there is no need to call. Changed a bunch of bookings and saved 10K+ points in total.

@Danny29: That wasn’t part of the sale. While 22K southwest points to from NY to FLL isn’t a bad deal it isn’t a great deal. British Air only charges 15K roundtrip LGA – FLL. Of course with Southwest you get MUCH better availability. Keep tracking your flight. If it goes down you can call Southwest and they’ll reimburse the difference.

CAK-BOS, DCA, DEN, and LGA are being axed.
Only DEN is being moved to CLE.

SW allows cancellation / modification up until date of departure & 2 free bags per person, BA Avios only permit 24 hr cancellation and no free bags on US domestic flights.
In August (unrelated to today’s SW deals) I have a one way for a family of 4 (LGA to FLL) for 8,800 SW points person and a return from MIA to LGA on AA.com via 7500 BA Avios.
PS, Southwest does NOT fly to / from Miami, which I was looking for (Port of Miami cruise)
Bottom line… Thanks to bloggers like Dan, we have options and tons of savings !

Can we buy SW Gift Cards from Staples GCs?
@DanR NYC: Southwest doesn’t flit to MIA but they do fly to FLL just not from LGA or EWR. All their NY routes to Florida are from ISP. Not sure where you live but ISP is a 50 minute drive from LGA. They have much cheaper off airport parking than LGA. One of the hotels near ISP offers parking for approx $7 a day.

Or you can park for free in the ronkonkoma Lirr parking lot for free and take the village taxi for $5 pp.
@Bin: You are correct. It all depends on how long you’re going to be away for and how many people you have. If you are a family of 6 people it would cost $60 round trip for the Village Taxi (you may also have to wait for 2 taxis). $60 is enough to park for almost 10 days at the hotel lot I mentioned. So if you’re going away for less than 10 days you’d be better off with the hotel lot.
