Last Wednesday Chabad of Northeast Portland announced the opportunity to win the Trip of a Lifetime on the Antarctica Kosher expedition, plus $3,500, and a Sea Kayaking package.

Registration for the cruise is closed, so this is now the only way to join!

The raffle is tomorrow at 3pm ET tomorrow, and there is a maximum of 800 tickets being sold. You can buy tickets to enter this raffle through Chabad of Northeast Portland here.

Chabad of Northeast Portland is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Located in the heart of hipster culture, Chabad of Northeast Portland has found that everyone enjoys a sense of community, even if they prefer their matzah balls to be gluten free and their challah vegan. Your raffle entry helps support the work that they do!

Here is a breakdown of which tickets people have been buying:

  • 12 People bought 8 tickets for $360
  • 51 People bought 3 tickets for $180
  • 126 People bought 1 ticket for $79

For a total of 375 entries.

People have bought tickets from 20 states as well as from cities like London and Paris and countries like Canada and Israel!

The top 5 locations with the most people buying are:

  • Brooklyn, NY – 63 people entered
  • Lakewood, NJ – 11 people entered
  • Monsey, NY – 9 people entered
  • Spring Valley, NY – 6 people entered
  • Manhattan, NY – 5 people entered

Running the numbers is an interesting lesson in how complex comparisons can be.

The first raffle to win a cruise to Antarctica had 292 tickets sold 5 days after it opened up sales.

Using that as the comparison, this 2nd raffle outsold that raffle at 323 tickets as of yesterday.

However if you compare things based on the time left until the raffle closes, the 1st raffle had approximately 700 tickets sold some 24 hours before the raffle ended, while the 2nd raffle is at 375.

Ticket sales are capped at 800 entries, will you be buying one?

@ZH Cohen

The winner will receive:

1 ticket for a passenger to cruise in a shared Triple Cabin, or a $14,000 credit that can be applied towards an upgraded cabin for 1 or 2 people on the cruise.

Is the value of the entire package considered taxable income?

Of course.

It’s taxable by law. Whether you choose to declare the income and pay the tax is between you, God,and the IRS.

And if you receive a 1099 from Chabad you’d better declare it.

Dr Moose

Monsey and Spring Valley are the same city.

Of course.

Brooklyn and Manhattan are part of the same city too.

Dr Moose

It’s like splitting up Boro Park and Flatbush from Brooklyn.

Levi

Hi, if I buy this and win, how much to upgrade to bring my wife along?

Yitzi

Looks like less people bought bc it’s worth a bit less then the previous one for just slightly less per ticket.

dave

that’s an understatement. the first raffle was for 2 ppl in private cabin; this is for 1 person in a shared 3 person cabin.
