Do you need to replace the device every 3 months?
Just the filter.
Not the device. The unit comes with one replaceable filter which will last up to three months. Replacement filters are sold in packs of 3 for $39

Has anyone tried this?
I purchased two several months ago and have been very happy with the results. We placed two units inside the Aron Hakodesh in Shul and it has made a noticeable difference in keeping the silver on the sifrei Torah clean. We chose to use two because of the size of the Aron.
Does my Curio need to be airtight for this to be effective?
It does not need to be airtight. One of the advantages to this item is that it filters the toxins in the air that does get in to your breakfront or curio. If your curio would be airtight there would be no need for a filter.
