A new and exciting way for Jewish Americans to manage their healthcare costs is finally a reality. United Refuah HealthShare, the first and only Jewish health-sharing option, unites like-minding individuals to share in each other’s medical expenses. As a non-profit organization, United Refuah keeps costs low with their primary concern being the health of their members.

Health-sharing is a way of facilitating the sharing of healthcare costs among individuals who have a common ethical or religious belief system. Currently, hundreds of thousands of families nationwide are successfully practicing medical cost sharing.

Members make monthly contributions to their RefuahShare Account and when a member encounters an eligible medical expense, the funds are shared from other members’ accounts to the account of the member in need and promptly paid to the care provider.

This particular program is brand new (starting June 1), but I know people that joined similar plans (non jewish, unfortunately) and it worked.

I recently joined. It is open for enrollment and can be used nationwide without any limitation to any network of doctors or hospitals, and they even share medical expenses while travelling.

Do doctors frown upon it? Meaning, are they more likely to turn a patient away because they have this “brand” of insurance or is it easier for them? It’s very tempting and my medical bills are through the roof…..TIA

Many Doctors prefer the HealthSharing payment structure to traditional insurance. Their compensation is generally higher than the very aggressive negotiated rates that the insurance companies use, and they can get paid quicker with less red tape. They also share in Chiropractic and certain other alternative care methods with prenotification, along with ten annual mental health practitioner visits. I think the single most valuable extra benefit is the 24 hour unlimited access to Board certified tele-medicine Doctors that can diagnose and prescribe over the phone.

How does it compare to Liberty?

Much appreciated! If you don’t mind me asking, after all monthly payments and deductibles, approximately how much did you save annually by switching? 10%? 30? Also, I honestly think 10 mental health sessions would help society very much. I’m a normal person, thank G-d, with normal struggles and needed to speak to someone professionally, but my insurance wouldn’t cover, so I keep pushing it off…

Liberty doesn’t have 80/20, it’s just the AUA on you, they cover the rest…

I’m so glad to see the Jewish world is making their own sharing network.
My only concern is whether this is doable since Jewish people, and especially frum people tend to have more medical procedures or issues. More births, more chronic diseases unique to ashkenazic genes etc. I would hope that some serious thought was given to these factors. Also, the kind of person that signs up for this likely already had a medical condition.

They have actuaries who figure out these things.

Wow!!

This is a great chesed to the Jewish community. There is nothing to loose. This company was started as a chesed not as a business. This is absolutely amazing!!!
