Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this raffle going on for at least 6 months already?

It does seem like it:)

Also it clearly states the apt is worth 645,000 so not sure where they get 1 MIL from…

Noah, I recall a few threads ago someone asked that. It was of the belief of some others that at the initial time of purchase the apartment was valued at $1 million. I know real estate fluctuates up and down, but especially in Jerusalem real estate is valuable and precious. I know there have also been questions on taxes, up-keep and maintenance, and so on…., I can’t recall all the responses.

Its all good. Seems like a worthwhile charity nonetheless, and I hope they make some $$

I think it’s the opposite. On paper before building it was $645K; worth $1M in today’s market.

Avi

They paid $645K, they think it’s worth ~$850K today, but some might advertise it at $1M.

Either way, the taxes on this alone wipe out much of the paper gain, so by winning this apartment, you have to layout >$300K in cash to take possession. These raffles are an interesting way to raise charitable funds, but the tickets are not tax deductible if you lose and if you win, you owe a lot of taxes.

Good luck to the charity.

They ARE tax deductible… just as a gambling loss and not charity. 😉

…which in no way helps the average yid who has no taxable gambling winnings.
