Author Topic: Avis Vouchers froms Discover America Deal (Read 9546 times)

I got 7 of these vouchers originally planning on using them for my summer vacation trip and Avis told me that basically the entire summer, from July 1st through August 15th is blacked out, and the vouchers cannot be used. Ditto for another trip I have planned over thanksgiving weekend.

Anyone have any experience using these vouchers? Do you have to pay taxes and/or airport charges when using these vouchers?

I am wondering if these have any value whatsoever as some other companies rates are cheaper than just Avis's taxes & fees to just pay for the entire rental at another agency.

Any ideas?

I tried to get amex to give me a refund using "return protection" but they said vouchers/coupons/gift certificates are not covered.

See above "ONE-WAY: Must be returned to renting station" i.e. no one way rentals.

underage is based on the awd you use, for example if you use BMG no underage fee

Helpful hints:

The nice thing is that you can book a premium for free with these and then you should be able to upgrade to any car you want.

Give the coupons when you return the car. That way if you get into an accident you can leave it on a CC but if you don't you just give the coupons in at the end and the rental will be free.

You do not pay any % taxes, but you do pay any applicable flat-rate facility fees. At a local location that's usually $0.

How exactly do you "upgrade to any car"? Is that only with Chairman status?

Are you saying that when you pick up the car you tell them to put it on a credit card and only when you return the car show them the coupons?

-With Avis Preferred the car is automatically on your credit card. You put the coupon code in the res but just hand them the coupons when you return the car.

They were sold for a day earlier this year and last year.
