Brussels, Belgium Master Thread
« on: July 18, 2011, 09:28:51 PM »
We have a stopover in Brussels next week from 8am-7pm. What is there good to see, do, kosher places to eat and daven? How far from the airport to city? How do you get there?
We are a young couple with a 7 month old baby. Thanks!

I assume you leave your luggage checked in, and just have your hand luggage/stroller with you.

At the arrivals, instead of walking straight out of the airport, go right (your 2 o'clock, not extreme right), and take the elevator to the bottom floor.
You buy there a train ticket to Brussels central station.
You take a short ride to brussels north, where you switch train to brussels central.

Kosher restaurants in brussels are: Balthasar, Da Bruno.

Check online for their opening times.

You might want to consider seeing antwerp or brughes or ghent.

Thank you so much for your ideas.. Are the restaurants expensive? Also where can we change dollars for euros to purchase train tickets?
You would give us a guided tour for free in brussels??

@moish: how come I didn't know you were in BRU

@cr123: I added a little * to point out Antwerp.

I'm a nice guy, not more than that ;-)

There is every hour a bus to antwerp, which takes 50 mins. It leaves both Antwerp and the airport @ the hour (7am, 8am, etc).

You arrive at the central station in Antwerp, which on itself is worth a look.

Depending on the time you got, and the speed you move around, you might want to consider different cities as well.

If you arrive in Brussels at 5am on a stopover, and are departing at 10am, how realistic is it to make it somewhere for a minyan?

Depending on your flights, you can go to 1 or 2 bote medrashim in the airport.

You have probably less than 50% chance to get a minyan.

If you arrive @ 5am, you just miss a bus to antwerp, which runs hourly.
You can catch a ride in most cases with some other yidden.
Catching the 6am bus, is a option, but you will have to be fast, to catch the 8am bus to return, but that's kinda risky.
Taxis (not the regular ones,) take 50 euro per direction.

To sum it up, if you can get a ride to antwerp, ask to be dropped of by gerrer shteeble, I believe they have a 6:30am minyan (drive from airport is about 45 mins with a car at this time).

An option would be for someone to drop you at the central station (7 min drive), and take a train to BRU, which is estimate that you will arrive at 8:30am.
