Trade SPG points for Hyatt Points?
« on: July 08, 2011, 10:10:24 AM »
Is there any way to trade SPG points for Hyatt points and have it effective immediately?
I have a planned stay on Monday and I need 6,800 more SPG points for my stay.

After doing some research, it seems that SPG points can be transferred from one account to another (although the SPG representative believes it onyl works between members with the same address) . However, Hyatt points can not be transferred. The only way to transfer points would be if I would book a night for someone else using my Hyatt points...  I don't think that will work out very well...

You're wrong on both counts:

SPG transfers between accounts with different addresses will be rejected (please prove me wrong about this).

And for Hyatt:

You are correct about SPG - only same addresses will work.
With Hyatt, I spoke to a representative who explained to me there is no way to transfer points you can only transfer points by booking a stay for someone else...

Either way it won't work. I am going to purchase the points - it comes out cheaper than paying the regular rate.

If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you can transfer those points to Hyatt as well.

You can book an award stay with Hyatt when you don't have enough points by saying a friend will transfer the points to you.  Then you can transfer points and cancel the stay.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thanks Dan. How do I get around the SPG address problem?

Change addresses, wait 30 days, and pray (not necessarily in order of chronology or importance).

The 30 day wait is definitely between the address change and the transfer (attempt). Now that I think about it, you can pray all along.
