Well i called to check status and the recording said they will mail my decision and will get it in 2 weeks. So i called the number and asked her the status. She put me on hold. Came back and said she can approve it.

Not approved instantly....Called same number the next day and only approved after moving available limit from my CO card. Guy said although my credit is good I had too many inquiries in the last year and when someone is shopping around for credit, it almost 'makes them wonder why.' They should really add a new category to credit reports for people who are just after the points.

Either way, approved.

that seems to be normal most people aren't getting instant approval , that doesn't mean they were going to deny you

also not sure what you are worried about , they aren't adding another hard pull to your account. At worst if your denied and you call for reconsideration they will see that you have the cc you were approved for . Big deal your still ahead had you applied separately you would of had 2 hard pulls and by the second one you would of also had another Chase card already.

I say call right away. In my case they decided 'declined' in less than 24 hours after applying, but the phone call turned into 'approved.' They probably already decided, you don't have much to lose by calling.

your correct that they are deciding within 24-48 hours, and initially declining many of the apps even though after a quick phone call they are overturning them .  I guess just waiting 2 weeks for snail mail wasn't good advice . Worst case hang up if they tell you they are still reviewing it .

Not that I'm sure why you are nervous like I mentioned earlier , you sound like you did something wrong

Looks like I'm in trouble with Chase. I'm flagged as a credit risk with too many inquiries in 6 months and it looks like they won't be approving anything for me in the near future. Time to take my business elsewhere for the time being...

She actually told me that (in my situation?) the three apps at once are seen as a credit risk, even when I explained I was doing it for the bonus miles.

Looks like my trigger-happiness will cost me 100k BA...

I hung up and called back spoke to someone else he told me both cards are of the same product and could only give me one, he gave me the option of which card i wanted. I told him to give the continental. so he said he closed the united and gave me the continental. sat night i will call back and try get the united card reopened

why didn't you follow Dans directive if you don't get what you want call back again , what would a 3rd phone call cost you . Unless reopening a closed CC is feasible , I'm not familiar with that issue (actually not familier with most issues related to CCs)
