Meeting Minimum CC Spending Req's w/o Actually Spending $$$

Now that I have several cards to spend $$$ on to get the points to post I was thinking of various ways to 'spend' money w/o actually doing so. Yes, there is the Mint but it seems to be risky...or is it? Either way, with several cards to activate it's not always practical as they have imposed limits.

Here is an idea...please let me know if this should work or add to the list!

1. Sending money to a friend or spouse through Paypal using the CC who can send it back or write a check (yes, there would be fees)

Paypal doesn't want you doing that therefore you are running a risk of them freezing your account (imho)

How would they know if I sent you $1,000 for example and then you mailed me a check for $950? They make their commission...?

Did you see the recent thread on Amex Serve (Serve.com)? Perhaps they can be funded with Visa/MC (I wouldn't rush to fund with Amex to reach bonus spending-requirements).

if you're talking about 'spending' with fees;
for amex cards: amex pass (can be done for 1.25%) ($202.5 for $200)
for visa/mc: amex gift checks (for about %3, $1030.95 for $1000)

They won't as long as you don't repeatedly pay the same person and he doesn't paypal you the money back.

One person could send via paypal and the other can send back via amazon payments less the 2.9%

I don't promise that they won't ban you eventually, but in the meantime it's just 1.45% for each of you if you split the paypal fees.

Looks like Amex Serve might work too. I would definitely use it for spend requirements on Visa/MC. With Serve and AmazonPayments you've got no fees for the next 6 months. (beware of daily/monthly amount limits on Serve and AP).

Do you guys think Serve is a risky way to fulfill spend requirements on Amex cards? What about PASS?

Not even 6 months, looks like they'll start charging on 09/02/11.
But until then Serve/Amazon ought to work.

amazon is very limited.   $500/$1,000 max a month, depending on your account.
