I signed up for a similar offer a couple of months ago, and for some reason, I thought that I had 4 mothns to spend. Any chance that I will get the bonus? When do they start calculating the three months; from the date you opened the card, or from the date of your first statement?

afaik from friends with similar issues it starts from the opening of the card

I was wondering if it has to be CLOSED (to avoid the $450 fee) or can it be downgraded? and whats the best card to avoid fees, if it can be downgraded..

you can downgrade to other charge cards only. gold ($125/year) or green ($95).
not sure about zync ($25)

But the 50K don't get credited until after statement closing (if you ask them to rush it). They're cool with just closing the account, crediting annual fee, and you keeping 50K?

Dan always say, you have 30 days from account closure date to redeem your MR points.

Thanks. So do I close after I spend $1K, after statement closing date or when I get billed annual fee? I would rather close before I get billed annual fee to avoid phone call with song and dance routine. Is that possible?

I would prefer the song and dance routine, especially since they prorate the annual fee, I like the peace of mind knowing my MRs are safe.

Dan, question for you. I recently signed up for Amex Platinum and then Amex Gold PR a few weeks after. For Gold PR I used the 25k offer but in the T&C it said not available to existing amex charge cardmembers.

Any chance I still get the 25k points even though I am a amex charge cardmember (as I said, signed up for Platinum recently)?
