Tons of amazing hiking.
Joshua Tree.
Walking up Cahuilla Hills Dr is easy and breathtaking: http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/6652
Don't miss the Thursday night fair, etc.
There's a good outlet mall nearby.

Where are you staying?

It's supposed to be chilly in the summer up there.  Can't imagine what it will be in the winter.

I got it on Priceline 3 weeks ago.. I paid $70 (plus taxes)..

Depending on when you travel, your best bet might be to book w/priceline last minute. (other times when I booked in advance the deals weren't nearly as good, and I didn't get the hotels I wanted)

Then again, with PL there are never any guarantees...

Very recommended for August, as long as you enjoy 110° high temperatures.
Oh don't worry, it's a dry heat. ;)

My brother got one of these vouchers, where you get a weeks stay at various hotes for around $249-$399 for the week plus taxes (whatever that is). Of course places like the Pocanos and New hampshire are available now, and not in the summer, while places like Palm Springs, Brazil, Argentina are available only in the summer.
So you are saying that even though it's cheap, you gotta avoid Palm Springs in August, right?

August is hot, but bearable if you don't mind the heat.

The Westin is nice and has some beautiful grounds as well. Not quite as on par with the Hyatt, but still a nice property with 2 golf courses, a spa and other amenities. When I stayed there I did one of those crazy timeshare tours and picked up $100/pp Visa GC for going on the tour for the villa property next door. Not too bad.

I was there once in June and it was 112° and we walked to Shul on Shabbos for 20 minutes... Dry heat until you come inside to the AC, thats when you begin to drip...
