Cancelling BA card, do you lose your miles?
« on: October 10, 2010, 02:17:57 AM »
For all of us that signed up for the BA promo almost a year ago, have you cancelled your card yet to avoid the annual fee? If so, has Chase made any issues with trying to take away the points, or am I safe to cancel?

i don't see how they could take them away if they wanted to...
has anyone tried 'downgrading' to a fee-free card (freedom, sapphire, etc.) instead of canceling? do they allow it? do they give you a hard time?

I cancelled my BA CC over eight months ago (at least), and my BA 100K is still in the account.
BTW, I have had experiences (not with Chase) where the CC Rep threatens the loss of miles if you close the CC, but it is purely "bark without the bite".

+1, and I've had it with Chase.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Dan, the +1 means that even though they threatened you, I have nothing to worry?
Also, as Gozalim asked, can this card be converted into a free chase credit card?

I already have a freedom, but a Sapphire Preferred to a Sapphire, or vice versa wasn't an issue.

Maybe we should have a thread dedicated to closing/downgrading cards. People could share their strategies/experiences. I know that many people have questions regarding this, and it would be good to have all the information in one place.

chase rep says that with all their partner cards (airline/hotel etc.) they have a contract not to convert it to any other card. just had to close it.
