My point is still true, that GPA will start to matter once you leave yeshiva.
I thought your Yeshiva GPA is based on where you are going to School and what profession you are entering.

I meant if you had left yeshiva and gotten a real degree.

What about a 'BTL' from an Israeli yeshiva that is not accredited by the AARTS?

At some point, it may be counted as an international "superior" degree. You need to ask on TLS about that. I think LSAC doesn't create a GPA for it, so it will probably be approximately treated like a regular yeshiva degree.

thanks. You wouldn't think it might not even be considered a BTL at all?

The difference is how they have to report it to USNWR.
If it is an American BTL, then they report is as an American degree with a 4.0 GPA. So the reporting is no issue, and the only issue is that the school has no idea if you are a decent student or just smart.

If it is foreign, then LSAC has different things they call it, and I don't think USNWR knows what to do with it. That you need to ask about on TLS.

I'm guessing it won't hurt you any more than an American one. But I still imagine they'll figure out you're a yeshiva guy.

A classmate at Columbia has his undegraduate degree (a B.A in religious studies) from "Israel Torah Research Institute"
Not sure whether that one is accredited.

i dont think they will look to see if its a good yeshiva as they prob assume every yeshiva is not as good as the worst college

The issue is not really whether you have an education, but whether you are a good student who is smart and able to hack school work. (and able to report a good GPA to USNWR).
So they really don't care whether it is a good or bad yeshiva.

As far as colleges, See TLS, that it doesn't matter what college you go to. All that matters is what your GPA is. It is possible you get a very slight bump if you went to the Harvard, Yale, or Princeton. (Except for getting into yale law school. 80% of their class is from Ivy league or stanford)

Thanks Henche! To sum up what you are saying, the BTL has a the advantage of a 4.0 GPA, and the disadvantage of possibly not beinmg studious.
An Israeli-fake BTL wouldnt have that advantage, but might have a different advantage of being 'foriegn' (?).
Am I correct in assuming transferring credits to an accredited school with a small in house requirment which can be completed online. Would be better since it carries a GPA?
I will check out TLS ASAP.

Probably. Ask on TLS if anyone has done that and if it is a good idea.

I'd like to start a yeshiva guy thread there, but nobody would find it, so there is not point.

Maybe we should start a thread, and ask the moderators to direct all yeshiva guy questions there. That could work.

Dan - can we fork the last discussion to a new Yeshiva/college issues thread.
(I can just think of 'Need help finding a yeshiva: post here)
