hey does anyone know what the best place to rent a car in israel is?... also does anyone know if there is a gps that works ini israel?.... thanks.

try Chayat 03 570 5102 (from america 011 972 3 570 5102) theyll make you a res w/ avis (any location) with the "chareidi" rate (no charge for shabbos) if you have a tourist visa you dont pay tax and only a WORLD Mastercard (such as the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Mastercard - make sure it says world on the card) covers insurance so you dont have to buy it from the rental agency

All the car rental companies also rent GPS units. I seem to remember the rental fee to be reasonable from when I rented one 18 months ago. I'm not sure, however, how necessary it is. The maps work fine and the road system is not that complicated

last year dan posted an awsome deal with avis for 13 $ a day in israel with avis
i took it for two weeks but even though i had the world mc they made me buy insurance

There are only a few companys that dont require you to buy insurance in Israel.
I rented from Budget in Israel a few months back and was not required. I made sure of this before I went.

Avis snuck in CDW insurance even though I paid with my World MC, but I contested the charge and won when I got home...

i think you are required to deny the rental insurance from avis otherwise you are not covered by your credit card be careful people .

You always need to deny the rental insurance or the credit card doesnt cover you (or I think it becomes your secondary insurance in some cases).

I am also looking for a cheap deal on car rental in Israel from Aug 4 to Aug 25.

I also am looking to rent a room or apt big enough for 4 beds. i dont need anything fancy just a place to sleep in Yerushalayim and I don't want to spend more then needed

Are there any heimishe or other avis agents in the us who are cheap, that i can compare against the ''chareidi" avis agent or is the ''chareidi" avis agent usually cheapest?

Avis Israel does not recognize corporate accounts they will not give you any better deals bec of american corporate. the best deals from lots of rentals over 20 is with chayat as some one said earlier. Call them they will give you the best deal and are honest and they'll give you the total price no shtick
