Going to Newport RI next month. Anyone know of any kosher restaurants(not the kosher B & B), or a place to get a minyan?

The Touro synagogue will have regular minyanim starting next month. Its the oldest synagogue in the US, and the tourists who come during the summer are enough to make it a functioning minyan.

As far as Kosher food, its kind of hard. Last I was there (a couple of years ago) there weren't really any kosher restaurants, however there IS a kosher bed and breakfast which was interesting.

Rent a scooter when you're there! Not worth driving a car and they're fun!

I was there a few years ago- I think the closest Kosher food is in Providence, about a 45 minute drive.

We brought a cooler and a bbq grill.

I'm looking into Newport for a short getaway. (Just one night I think.) Anyone have any hotel recommendations? I'm looking at the Hyatt there, tho its a little $$$, because we are not really the B&B type. (Are there any good Hyatt deals out there nowadays?) If anyone has been to Newport recently and has any suggestions for accommodations or activities, I'd be glad to hear them!

Middletown,RI is a couple of miles North of NP and has alot of motels some even have coupons on www.roomsaver.com , but Id call to see if they accepting them as they fill up very fast this time of year.

Try looking at Hilton.com , marriott.com , priorityclub.com and play around with different codes to see what if any discount maybe offered Wydham.com etc

I was in Newport last summer. We stayed at Hotel Viking, which is not too bad (we got it through priceline). Shlepped all the food from NY as there was nothing there... Touro synaogue had minyan while I was there... I chose the Viking as opposed to the Hyatt because it is a short walk to the town center and close to everything.
Overall, its a nice place, but a little overrated..

I stayed in a holiday inn 12 minutes from newport was very impressed for a holiday inn I think it might have been Middletown.
( i've been to many hotels and I rather big and clean rooms , then small and old rooms  but are supposed to be "fancy"  (that have mold.....
They even had a pillow menu.

Do you mean to say you were able to swim there?

There's no minyan on weekdays, shabbos only. But usually, beginning in July, they have a minyan on weekdays throughout the summer. Don't miss the cliffwalk and a sailboat. Take a tour at the Turo Synagogue, don't visit more than 2 mansions in one day.

I'm going to do a Boston-RI trip b'h in mid August, the plan is to leave Tuesday night to Boston staying there over Shabbos & then head to Newport RI sunday morning, I plan to take a tour of the touro shul, check some mansions & do the cliff walk (as much as I can go with a stroller) then leave Sunday night back to Brooklyn.

can I do all this in one day, is it worth staying another day, am I missing out on something?

1 day is enough.
a few mansions? Mansion tours can be quite long and may get boring.
