Carribean Islands (Which One?) Master Thread
« on: June 18, 2008, 10:42:57 PM »
Hey all,
Anyone have any ideas for a place s/w in the Carribean, that would be relaively appropriate for a religious couple w/ a 1 yr old? Some kosher food and a shul is a plus but not mandatory.
I have a Continental voucher to use (from Cleveland) and a RCI property to schnor.
Hoping to go in Mid-September of Mid-November for a week or so.
Thanks all!

I'm not familiar with the Caribbean, but beautiful deserted beaches are quite plentiful on the Hawaiian islands

The quietest SPG place in the Carribean is St John Westin its pretty quiet and usually deserted. If you are looking for a private Island its obtainable, but quite costly (No starpoints)

the front picture for the hotel just doesnt look like a category 6,
i know its silly but first impression means alot

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1098

and they are currently renovating, while converting 108 out of 175 rooms into vacation ownership.
Isnt that timeshares? i know they try really hard to sell it to you and very agressively when you stay at a starwood hotel.
How do you get a group of lawyers to smile for a picture?

A: Just say "Fees!"

CARRIBEAN VACATION
« Reply #11 on: June 14, 2010, 11:16:55 AM »
I am planning a trip to the Carribean this August, not sure which island yet. I was thinking of Grand Cayman since Starwood has a Westin there that I can use points for a hotel.

A hotel room cost 12,000 points per night, with the fifth night free. Very convenient as I plan to stay for five nights and have about 48,000 Starwood points.

Does anyone know of any other islands that have a Starwood hotel and are at least as beautiful as the Caymans? Also, looking for an island that would have a direct flight from NYC.

Anyone ever been to Grand Cayman? please share some of your travel experiences.

Thanks

Here are some other ideas for the Carribean with Starwood hotels, I havent yet been to these but they are on my to do list :-)
If anyone stayed at any of them please give us your reviews...

Aruba, (AUA direct from NY on AA,UA,CO and JetBlue) Westin
St Maarten (SXM direct from NY on AA,UA,CO and JetBlue) Westin
St John's- requires a flight to St thomas (STT direct from NY on DL or AA) and a ferry to St Johns also a Westin

And then you have some Mexico Destinations...

Keep in mind that to GCM there are limited direct flights from NY;
Leaving from JFK, only on Sat, Sun, Mon and Thurs (on DL and Cayman air)
returning to JFK- Sat, Sun and Wednesday (on DL and Cayman air)
Leaving from or Returning to EWR- Sat and Sun (UA and CO) only

Don't forget Puerto Rico.

Also you can look at Hyatt's because you can also trade your Starpoints for Hyatt nights.
Here are the Hyatt's in the Carribean.

Cool.  The Shliach to the Netherlands Antilles is an old yeshiva friend of mine.
Absolutely great guy, I'm sure a shabbos meal with him would be a blast.

I am actually looking to travel from NY on Sunday direct to cayman, then on the way back fly via Miami, stay there for the weekend and then fly back to NY Monday. I have AMEX MR points, which airline would be the best to transfer those to for this sort of flight?

I am really looking at a more exotic but yet somewhere I can take kids. I inquired of the Westin in Grand Cayman for a suite so that my kids don't need to sleep in the same room as me but apparently they only have a presidential suite which is $1000/night. The next best thing would be to get two adjoining rooms, one for us, the other for my kids.

Any better ideas?

What about Hyatt Curacao? Supposed to be amazing there.
I'd be happy to try to arrange a suite there for you on the cheap.
