Starwood AMEX credit limit increase
« on: December 19, 2009, 10:12:41 PM »
I have a Starwood AMEX with $12.000 CL and I just called them to increase my CL. they said that if I request up to triple the amount of my current CL, that I would likely be approved.
So I asked them to bring it up to $35.000, and the guy said that I should verify my annual income, so I told him that I make $110.000 a year (not true).
After the guy put the request through, he said that they would be getting back to me within 7-10 days.
Last time I requested them to increase my limit from 5.500 to 10.000 they did it on the spot.
my question is: Have I just been sent to AMEX's dreaded "financial review team"?
The reason for asking this is because the guy said that if I wanted a quicker response, I can call on monday, since "that" dept. is closed on weekends. So if, indeed, I've been forwarded to them, I rather call them on sun. (tomorrow), and cancel my credit increase request...
Anything, not to get on AMEX's black list...

Not a hundred percent sure, but i think they are just going to review your account, and see if they want to give you such a big increase. keep login in online to see if your CL changed. sometimes they will change it quicker than 7 days and notify you by post.
good luck

Having an AMEX limit of 25K+ is said to be a trigger for a financial review.

Now if I asked them to raise it Youd be 100% correct, when they do it by themselves I believe theres nothing to worry about, since the acct will be noted that they themselves raised it w/o my asking

Im not Dan but at this stage if I was you Id simply do nothing and wait it out, no way I can think of to undo it and calling them Id think would only cause them to try and figure out why you are so worried if everything is on the up & up

Amex recently sent me an app for the new Gold Premeir CC preapproved with 15k after $1k in spending, I got it no FR. Thats with a 20k+ HH CC and my SPG over 50k. Figured what the hay another 15k for  CO

I feel its a YMMV issue, and calling in to get something raised or for another new CC might raise the Flag on a person especially if the #s are far apart from what they have on file. thats besides Amex going over their records and making sure they feel the person to whom they issued a CC is stable and can handle it, alot of banks have been doing this lately and probably will so for awhile to come

For business and personal cards does it go per card or both combined?
(i had a 5k limit and called for a increase and they instantly gave me a increase to 15k)

I have a 5K limit on my SPG personal card and 3K limit on business card (with same name on it). If I want to close the business account, can I ask them to simply move the 3K over to the personal and save myself a credit pull? Or not worth messing with?

I don't think they do this anymore, even less likely for biz to personal. But you can always try.
