Israel-US money transfers
« on: October 10, 2011, 07:47:50 AM »
What is the absolute cheapest way for small (<$5,000) transfers from Israel to the US and vice versa? AFAIK banks charge $25
Amex no longer allows paying accounts in the Jerusalem office...

Cool. Didn't even know you used to be able to do that. Does anyone know if I can pay off a Citi Card in the branch in TLV
(Not OT, as that info will probably help the OP)

Tried that once. The branch in TLV is only the private bank and some other part, but not the regular citibank. nothing they can do for you. Even HSBC doesn't have a regular service branch in Israel.

That's correct, same goes from Fidelity cards & many other banks.
that would only be good if I'm trying to get money from the bank to Israel. My question is about getting from Israel to the bank.

So I wasn't gonna correct you, cause it was OT. But I just stopped by, and guess what - it's OnT:

Cheerfully Changed was a franchise, and the place by the Mir was a franchised branch. About a year ago CC was being investigated, and eventually went bankrupt (might have been vice verse, I don't really keep up with the gossip). Even before the first rumors were circulating, the branch by the Mir took down their sign.

So in short, I spoke to the guy today, and he said the service you mentioned was a CC service, and when they became disenfranchised, they found out the it violated US ACH law, so they stopped it.
