Spirit is having one of their crazy sales now. In order to get the advertised price you have to join the $9 fare club (which costs $40/year) or have the Spirit credit card. However even if you don’t you only pay a $9 penalty each way to get in on the sale.
A quick search for a few of the cities on sale showed that it definitely is possible to still get the special fares in both directions.

Original posting: Free tickets on Spirit.
People are reporting that Spirit is honoring the tickets that they gave away for free last week. You will not have to pay any of the mandatory taxes normally required for travel!
Update 2: Deal is now dead!
Update: The “surprise” only works in the Firefox web browser, it will not work in IE.
Incredibly (Impossibly?) this price mistake is still alive!
S.B.S. points out that if you start checking out for one of the $0 intra-florida airfares (which do earn miles by the way), then continue as a guest (don’t login), and then you click the $9 fare club check box multiple times you will be in for quite the surprise!

Update: Just to make sure that the deal works I went ahead and booked a $0.00 ticket from Ft. Lauderdale to Orlando. I got a receipt and a confirmation number showing the $0 total cost! Now we just have to wait and see if Spirit finds a way to weasel out of honoring the tickets…

As I’ve said in the past, these are usually pretty gimmicky because it’s hard to book a RT with the $8 dates. Nevertheless, I won’t stop getting emails about the sale until I post it, so here it is…

I hate posting these (IMHO) gimmicky sales, but if I don’t post it then I will be bombarded with email telling me to post it, so I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s much less hassle to just to post it…
It is technically possible to fly both ways for negative $4 if you’re up for a really long vacation: Fort Lauderdale to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico from 9/30-12/02 comes up to $36 RT after all taxes. Otherwise it’s primarily only good for the one-way, but round-trip travel is required.
Also be prepared to be nickeled and dimed for everything from checked luggage($5-$10/bag) to lap infants($25) to a can of coke($2).
Remember to unselect the $9 fare club and the $12 travel insurance which Spirit tries to sell you by default when you buy a ticket!
