Roundup Of Money Making AMEX Express Checkout Deals: “SBS In July”

Monday, August 10th, 2015

Update, 08/10:

-Ticketmaster has cancelled some, though not all, of the “test” tickets. If your order is cancelled the $10 credit will be clawed back as well.  You can still make another order to get the credit and a new $5 donation option has been added below.

-There are new discount codes for Sabon as well below.
———————————————————————————————————-

Originally posted on 07/16:

On 07/14 I reported that I had received a $10 credit for spending $0.01 via AMEX Express Checkout on several of my primary and secondary AMEX cards that are from the same AMEX online account.

Secondary cards with your SSN can be registered for their own account management under your primary AMEX account login or you can register them for their own online account login.

Just click on “my cards” and then “add another card” at the bottom:

amex5

This promotion runs through 09/07/15.  Consumer and business cards are eligible. Prepaid (Including Serve/Bluebird/REDcard) and corporate liable cards are not eligible.

It takes up to a week after the charge appears to receive the credit.

Each primary and secondary AMEX card can get a $10 credit to each store, up to a potential $110 in statement credits per AMEX card by using each of your cards at each of the 11 participating stores:
Barkbox.com
us.burberry.com
Laithwaiteswine.com
Ledbury.com
Newegg.com
Sabon.com
Ticketmaster.com
Virginwines.com
Warbyparker.com
WSJ.com
WSJwine.com

Of course the way to maximize those potential $110 in statement credits per card is by finding the least expensive item sold by each store.

Let’s take a look at what we’ve found so far.

NewEgg:

The old NewEgg link no longer shows the inexpensive download items, so here are new links:

Digital Download Items, from low to high

-Items with free shipping, from low to high.

-Items without free shipping, from low to high.

The process is simple:

1. Add any inexpensive item to your cart.

2. Select AMEX Checkout in your cart:

newegg

3. Login to your AMEX account, verify your account, and checkout.

4. Repeat for your other cards.

5. Check back in 5-7 days for a credit.
The $0.01 software downloads I originally bought (and was credited for after 5 days) have been pulled from the site.

Unfortunately many items were from a seller called V-Top Trading and they forgot to include a shipping charge on their items. They have cancelled all of their orders and NewEgg provided a $5 code to affected customers as a gesture of goodwill.

Commenters confirm that the $10 credits are being reversed for cancelled orders.

For now, the least expensive items from NewEgg are $0.49, so you can make a $9.51 profit on each order.

Some downloadable items have a limit of 2 or 5 downloads per NewEgg account, so read the terms on the item’s page.

Downloadable items require a NewEgg login.  To avoid errors on downloadable items it’s best to login to NewEgg from your cart rather than clicking on AMEX Express Checkout right away.  After logging in to NewEgg and continuing to the payment screen you can then select AMEX Express Checkout and it should process without errors.

If it still doesn’t work try using a different browser.

Sabon:

Sabon Linky

Update, 08/10:

The following codes are valid for orders placed by 08/11:

5% off $50+: AUG05

10% off $85+: AUG10

15% off $120+: AUG015

I originally wrote about Sabon in this post 2 days ago.

The cheapest item from Sabon is a $10 gift card.

Additionally you get $1 in loyalty points for each $10 gift card that you buy, so you effectively get $11 for every $10 that you spend. Plus of course you’ll get the $10 back via statement credit.

There’s no limit to how many gift cards you can use in an order.

Shipping is free on $100+ orders.

You can save 10% of $100+ orders with code: WELCOME10

You can only use 1 promo code, but you can a code with use gift cards and loyalty points.

Shipping is free on $100+ orders, but even if you only have a few AMEX cards you can still get free stuff from Sabon.

TicketMaster:

Update, 08/10:

Here is a link for a $5 donation that is currently working with AMEX Checkout.

Just login to TicketMaster, look for “other ways to pay” and select AMEX Express Checkout.

You need to be using the TicketMaster desktop site to use AMEX Express Checkout.

Post a comment if you find other options!

————————————————————————————————————–

Yesterday DDF member “username” reported that he got a $10 credit for making a $1 donation via Ticketmaster and he shared links to several charities that accepted $1 donations.

That meant a $9 profit on each donation.

Those links are dead, but you can still:

1. Buy a ticket to this test event for $5.25 ($1 plus a $4.25 processing fee) leaving a $4.75 profit per card.

2. I’m not going to speak on the ethics of booking up a free ticket to a movie that you don’t intend to use, but you can add a $5 donation on the page after selecting a free ticket, leaving a $5 profit per card.

5% off $50+: JULY05

Sabon sells gift cards to use at Sabon.com.

That’s useful because you need to spend $100 to get free shipping.

The minimum gift card purchase is $10.  When you buy a gift card with AMEX Express Checkout you’ll get a $10 statement credit, effectively making the gift card free.  Read more about AMEX Express Checkout in this post.

You can get a $10 AMEX Express Checkout credit on each of your cards from each of the participating stores!

If you create a Sabon.com account when checking out you’ll also get a $1 store credit for each gift card that you buy via their loyalty program.  Those credits can be applied to future orders when you apply them during the checkout process.

Say you have 11 AMEX consumer and business cards (Primary and secondary cards all work, the secondary cards just need to be enrolled for account management on AmericanExpress.com in order to checkout with them)

You can purchase 10 gift cards of $10 each in 10 separate orders.

The gift cards arrive immediately via email.

Then you can add $120 of items from Sabon to your cart.

You can then apply the $100 in gift cards and apply the $10 in store credit during the checkout process. Then select AMEX Express Checkout and the final $10 will be charge to your 11th AMEX card.

Your total out of pocket for $120 of items will be $0 and you’ll get free shipping.

Note that sales tax is applied in FL, MN, NJ, and NY.

Money Making AMEX Express Checkout: Like SBS In July, Only Better!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2015

Update: If you get a blank screen on NewEgg when checking out with AMEX, try logging into a NewEgg account and selecting AMEX Express Checkout as the payment method only after logging in.

———————————————————————————

SBS is that magical day of the year when AMEX makes our wishes come true with statement credits to cover what we spend at small businesses.

AMEX Express Checkout may be even better:

amex4

Last week I wrote about the new AMEX Express Checkout service and the promo offer for $10 off any order.

The terms say “Limit one $10 statement credit, per American Express online account, per merchant.”

But I like experimenting so I made several orders of $0.01 each from Newegg.

I used AMEX cards from the same online account as well as cards with their own account login. I also used primary and secondary cards from the same account.

Today I got a $10 statement credit on each AMEX card for every $0.01 order that I made, so it took just 5 days instead of the stated 90 days after the promo end to get the credit. And it worked for cards on the same online account.

While SBS 2014 for example actually required you to spend $30 to get back $30, this promotion allows you to spend any amount to get back a $10 statement credit! Plus it works at 11 different stores!

The 1 penny items from NewEgg are now sold out, but you can use this NewEgg link to find other cheap items that will trigger a $10 statement credit!  Currently items start at just $0.13 shipped, though cheaper items are likely to sell out quickly…

The only thing I didn’t try was making multiple purchases on the same card, though I just tried that now and will post an update if that gets a credit as well.

This promotion runs through 09/07/15.  Consumer and business cards are eligible. Prepaid and corporate liable cards are not eligible.

The process is simple:

1. Add any inexpensive item to your cart.

2. Select AMEX Checkout in your cart:

newegg

3. Login to your AMEX account, verify your account, and checkout.

4. Repeat for your other cards.

5. Check back in 5-7 days for a credit.

Eligible stores (Each AMEX card is eligible for a $10 statement credit for making a purchase at each of these stores):
Barkbox.com
us.burberry.com
Laithwaiteswine.com
Ledbury.com
Newegg.com
Sabon.com
Ticketmaster.com
Virginwines.com
Warbyparker.com
WSJ.com

UberPool Brooklyn: 2 Free Rides To, From, Or Within Crown Heights Or Bed-Stuy This Weekend

Friday, June 19th, 2015

Uber is a pretty awesome app. I’ve done day trips to cities like Chicago and NYC without having to rent a car thanks to UberX rides that are cheaper than a taxi and far more convenient. And while people wait for an hour in the taxi line I breeze right into a waiting car.  I even earn Starpoints for using Uber on top of 3 points per dollar for charging Uber rides to my Everyday card.

If you’re new to Uber you can get a free $20 Uber ride via this referral link.

UberPool is Uber’s ride-sharing service where you can save money by agreeing to be matched with another rider if you’re both going along simalar routes.  Even if you don’t get matched you still save money.

This weekend (06/20 and 06/21) UberPool is offering 2 free rides to, from, or within the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Crown Heights or Bed-Stuy.  The maximum value of each free ride is $20, so if you go over $20, you’ll get $20 off each ride. You can get a guaranteed fare quote for UberPool in the Uber app. Just enter the following promo code online or in-app: BKLOVEJUNE and select UberPool. More info on the promotion here.

One of my favorite unconventional uses for Uber is for food delivery.  I’ve been able to order restaurant food and I just ask the driver if they’re able to pickup an order for me. 9 out of ten times they have no problem with that, otherwise I just cancel for free. In restaurants without parking I just call the restaurant and ask them to bring the food outside to the driver. I’ve had food delivered with UberX on a connection in Miami airport for just $15 from 41st St in Miami Beach and in Chicago I’ve had food delivered with UberX from Shallots for $15 and Milt’s for $20.  In LA food delivery from Pico to LAX is also just $15 with UberX.  I haven’t tried it on Newark connections as New Kosher Special delivers their heavenly General Tso to the airport free of charge :)

I’ve never tried food delivery with UberPool, but if you try to have some Basil or Boeuf & Bun delivered to you from Crown Heights this weekend please post a comment on how it goes 😀

Like Shutterfly On Facebook And Get A Free 8×11 Hardcover Photo Book

Just click “get your code” for a free 8×11 photo book.

There are a limited amount of codes, so claim a code now while they last.

I use a Facebook account solely for these promotions to avoid signing away my privacy rights.

You’ll have to order the book by 06/07. The code will work to get any 8×11 hardcover photo book for free, not just the wedding guestbook.

-You can click on this link to apply the code to your Shutterfly account.

-Shutterfly Photo Books Linky

We’re in love with Shutterfly’s 8×11 sized hardcover photobooks, we make an 8×11 book for every trip we take (big bookcase ;) ). They also make for great gifts for the grandparents.

The hardcover version of the 8×11 photo book where you can put your own picture on the front and back covers is normally $39.99.

Shipping is $8.99, but this is a true bargain at that price. The quality is far superior to Snapfish.

If you order $30 of other items from Shutterfly (or if you add a lot of extra pages to your book) you can get free shipping on the order with code: FREESHIP30

20 pages are included, extra pages are 70 cents each with the current 30% off promotion.

HOT! Get (A Lifetime Supply Of) Free Diapers And Wipes From Sam’s Club With AMEX Offers!

Monday, May 11th, 2015

Several years ago I got dozens of boxes of free diapers from Amazon thanks to their ridiculously generous stacking promo codes.

I’ve burned through most of my collection of those, though I overbought on the smaller sizes that the kids grow out of way too quickly.

With the current $20 off $20 Sam’s Club deal though you can potentially get a lifetime of free diapers and wipes depending on how many primary and secondary AMEX cards you have.

I’m still working my way through free gift cards to local grocery stores and restaurants thanks to the annual Small Business Saturday promotion. And thanks to that I have lots of AMEX cards at my disposal.

You can read this post for instructions on how to register each of your primary and secondary cards for $20 off $20 at SamsClub.com.

You don’t need a membership to shop on SamsClub.com.

If you register your free online SamsClub.com guest account with an address in California you won’t even pay the 10% penalty for not being a member. That applies even if you ship your items and list your billing address outside of California!

Just add an item to your cart and use guest checkout:

sam3

If they do add a paid membership to your cart you can just uncheck the box on the bottom of your cart to remove the membership.

sam4

Or you can always get a membership that you and another household member can use online or in-store for just $5 after $40 off thanks to 2 registered AMEX cards.

They used to carry a $20 gift card that was valid at Sam’s or Walmart, but that’s now out of stock. The cheapest gift card is now $50.

But you can buy a $40 case of diapers and split it between 2 cards. Each card will get a $20 credit from AMEX.

As long as there is tax on diapers in your state you can even buy a $39.98 case of diapers. For me the total with tax came out to $43.58, or $3.58 after the 2 $20 credits:

sam

All you need to do is enter 2 AMEX cards and check the box next to each one before clicking continue:

sam1

You’ll then be asked to write how much to charge each card, just make sure to put at least $20 on each:

sam2

For a case of $19.98 wipes you can just use 1 card and get the credit as long as the total is $20 or more after tax.  For a case of $15 wipes you can order 3 and split the charge between 2 cards.

If you don’t have tax then you can add a filler item to get over $20 or $40:
Pilot pen for $1.38 (Select blue or purple for free shipping on one pen)
Uni-ball pen for $1.68
Pilot G6 Retractable Gel Ink Pen for $1.68
Pilot Retractable Precise Roller Ball Pen for $1.88
