Effective 03/01/09 Citi will be devaluing their thank you points drastically.

Up until this point they offered a fixed-point redemption option allowing points to be worth up to 2 cents each when redeemed for coach or up to 3 cents per point for business class.

On March 1st Citi’s thank you points will be capped at just a penny apiece with the elimination of the fixed-point option.

The concept behind it is that you should be able to send money to people via SMS.  It is powered by a Citibank prepaid debit card-so is does require your SSN, however the SSN is only required for verification purposes-it will not affect your credit score.
