Get $15 Off Every $300 Of Visa Gift Cards From Office Max Or Office Depot This Week

For every $300+ in Visa gift cards that you buy in Office Max or Office Depot stores by 8/27 you’ll get $15 back instantly!

Use your Chase Ink Plus or Chase Ink Cash card and get 5 points per dollar spent.

This sale isn’t advertised in the weekly ad, but there should be a sign by the gift card rack in your local store.

Last December my local store let me buy 60 cards as I racked up the miles in record time.

Currently I’m in Kansas and the local Office Depot wanted to limit me to 2 cards, but when I pointed out that their sign said limit 2 offers per customer they allowed me to buy 3 of the $200 Visa cards in one transaction to get $30 back.

The total charge for $600 in gift cards after fees was $590.85 and I’ll earn 2,955 points by charging it to my Ink card.

You can use the last 4 digits of the card as the PIN number to cash them out by buying money orders or using bill pay at stores like WalMart or various grocery stores or gas stations.

Or you can donate the Visa gift card to charity and get a receipt for the full $200 face value.

Or you can always give away a gift card as a wedding or Bar Mitzvah gift.

    Dan,
    Did they shut down your Bluebird? How are you liquidating these gift cards? I was thinking about buying money order but that sounds too risky. Amex shut down my Bluebird. 🙁

    Thanks

    @ryan why would using a money order be risky? Maybe I’m just an amateur but it sounds pretty straight forward

    @BigEasyTraveler – next time read the promo instructionsand follow them… it clearly states limit 2, so you should have split the transaction into 2 – 6 cards and then 3 for a total discount of $45. No need to pay the fees.

    Are the Sunrise cards the variable load ones? My OM did not have any $200 visa, plenty of smaller denominations, and a good supply of the 20-500 that were on the rack. Will the variables work?

    @Joseph because banks track down fraud activity when you repeatedly use money orders. So does the IRS. Be very careful with money orders. I would do one or two from time to time. Not more.

    I’ve deposited tons of MOs to my bank account without issue. Just don’t deposit to Chase.

    @Ljderm:
    No, it’s $200 flat.
    Some stores will take CCs for variables, some won’t.

    @Joe Rodriguez:
    I’ve done much more than that. IRS won’t care if you’re doing it for miles.
    Some banks, like Chase, do care, so don’t deposit them there.

    @TONY:
    Why not?

    @Ariella:
    No.

    I bought a few today. Got some of the “dining” special ones (20-200) that are only 4.95 fee, but I’m not sure how to dispose of them easily. I miss Serve/BB … last December when they had a similar deal, I bought 50+ of the $200 VGCs and disposed of them rather quickly at walmart.

    @dan why not Chase? I’ve deposited some MOs to Chase over the last year and so far no problems. I don’t go crazy though.

    @mark good luck disposing of those dining gift cards. Reports are that they don’t work at most locations, and even some restaurants. They will definitely not work at walmart for money orders.

    @bob: “good luck disposing of those dining gift cards.”

    I only bought one “set” (3 x $200) of those dining gift cards. If disposing them the usual ways doesn’t work, worst comes to worst, I’ll just use them for actual restaurants. With a family of 7, including 3 teens, dinner at a kosher restaurant is easily $200 so they will be gone in no time anyway. 🙂

    I forgot to bring them with me to Walmart last night to test them out. Maybe later this week.

    Dan,

    My local Walmart checks my debit card for money order purchases. My name has to appear on the card. Is there a way to get around this?

    Yes, get debit cards with your name on them! (some places sell debit gift cards that can be customized with name)

    Dan,
    So I have $1200 in vgc. What’s the quickest way to buy money order? Can we use 2 vgc to buy $400 worth of money order?
    With 6 vgc, I’m thinking it’s going to be a hassle to go to Walmart 6 times. Also, do you just deposit all the money orders all at once? Thanks. Just trying to be cautious here.
