American and United are in an all-out European fare war with cheap tickets from each other’s hub cities to various cities in Europe this fall from September-December.

That means cheap fares on American from United’s hubs of Cleveland, Denver, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington DC/IAD. (Shh, please don’t tell AA that United dehubbed CLE years ago).

And it means cheap fares on United from American’s hubs of Charlotte, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Phoenix. United’s fares from Philadelphia are valid from the airport or from ZFV, the downtown Philadelphia Amtrak station. You’ll need to start at the Amtrak station, but nobody will make you take the return Amtrak.

Their shared hubs of Chicago and Los Angeles are mostly exempt.

Google Flights is a good way to find sample dates.

Among many other dates and cities, here are a few sample valid sale fares:
Philadelphia downtown train station (ZFV) to Barcelona from 9/14-9/21 for $387 (on United via Newark, bookable on United)
Philadelphia downtown train station (ZFV) to Madrid from 10/26-10/30 for $392 (on United via Newark, bookable on Orbitz)
Newark to Lisbon from 9/11-9/19 for $407 (on American via Philadelphia, bookable on Orbitz)
-Newark to Zurich from 9/14-9/18 for $414 (on American via Philadelphia, bookable on Priceline)
Newark to Frankfurt from 9/14-9/18 for $470 (on American via Philadelphia, bookable on Priceline)
Cleveland to Zurich from 9/7-9/11 for $414 (on American via Philadelphia, bookable on Priceline)
San Francisco to Zurich from 9/14-9/19 for $414 (on American via Philadelphia, bookable on Priceline)
Dallas to Barcelona from 11/10-11/16 for $394 (on United via Newark, bookable on Priceline)
-Phoenix to Barcelona from 12/6-12/10 for $394 (on Air Canada via Toronto, bookable on Priceline)

Other European cities on sale include Berlin, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Munich, Stockholm, and Vienna.

You should specify why this ‘fare war’ is going on, the United states has warned against terror this summer/fall and they are loosing business like crazy. Please do research before you book.

Gary

You left Delta out (although to be honest, they were just matching fares).

A fab

Dan can u plz wave your magic wond and get me tickets from SAN to Europe in July for cheap. Wife and I want to go. 😆

As part of the State Department’s continuous efforts to provide Americans travelling abroad with information about relevant events, we are alerting U.S. citizens to the risk of potential terrorist attacks throughout Europe, targeting major events, tourist sites, restaurants, commercial centers and transportation. The large number of tourists visiting Europe in the summer months will present greater targets for terrorists planning attacks in public locations, especially at large events. This Travel Alert expires August 31, 2016.

Price war doesn’t seem to help me get to Uman (Kiev – KBP) for Rosh Hashana. Pricing is still $900-$1200 round trip. Unless I’m doing something wrong?….

are you sure you have to take the train when starting at ZFV? I thought there was conflicting data points on that?

zow

No options for BOS? I guess we are not really a hub for any of the legacy carriers, even though we are The Hub City.

Ydad

Am I the only one who saw “european fall” and thought wigs?

Bmk

Isn’t Miami an AA hub ?
Any options there

Er

Lol, I thought wigs too!

Nicole

To add to this great fare, your can add RT MAD or BCN to TLV for around $350 RT on EL AL and even less on other low cost carriers. Get two trips, 3 cities for $748!

Anonymous

@JDM: How do I do that add-on? And can I use this to get from TLV to NYC or PHL for R”H through Succos

Mike

Orbitz isn’t recognizing the Amtrak station code ZFV. How do you adjust so the website searches for trains too?

Dan

@Mike:
Just type it in and click search.
Works fine from my desktop.
But searching PHL should also pull up ZFV options.

JDM

@JDM: Just make two separate reservations. Go to Elal.com or any site. Prices will be in euros for Europe to RLV rt.
