Amazon will be discounting Prime membership for new members from $99 to $73 this weekend. The sale will run from tomorrow night at 9pm PST through Sunday night at 11:59pm.

New subscribers will be able to enroll here.

In the past there has been a loophole for existing members to lock in the discounted rate via gift subscriptions, though that didn’t work during the last promotion. I’ll bump this post with more info about that if gift subscriptions do happen to work this time around.

You are able to share all the benefits of Prime with another member, so if your Prime is expiring soon you can open a new Amazon account and share the Prime benefits with the existing account once the Prime on your existing account expires.

Prime members get free 2 day shipping on all orders, free instant video streaming, free Prime music, free kindle books, free photo storage in the cloud, prime pantry access, no-rush Amazon credits for choosing slower shipping on orders, etc.

You’ll also be able to opt into Amazon Family where you’ll also get 20% off subscription orders of diapers and 15% off to complete unordered items from a baby registry.

Amazon offers free shipping with $35+ orders or get free next-day shipping on all orders with a free trial of Amazon Prime. Prime members can share benefits with a Household member here, allowing them to double up on Amazon Prime promos!  A 6 month trial and discounted Prime membership is available with Amazon Student. EBT/Medicaid Cardholders can save on Prime Membership here.

What if I have but its expiring in a few weeks will this work for existing customers?

Dan

@Anonymous:
Unknown at this point.

You could always open a new Amazon account if you wanted though and you can even share the prime from the new account to the old account…

Dov

Can you use an Amazon Gift Card to pay for prime?

Dan

@Dov:
You can via gift subscriptions (It’s also a loophole to transfer gift cards between Amazon accounts)

Maya

You can share your prime? Anyone want to share? With me

Sfooz

The link for gift subscriptions says not eligible for promotions so I guess there is no way
To pay with gift card balance at the siscounted rate- is there?

Joe

@dan I want to fly to San Diego mid February and March again. Would like to use points, I can’t find any posts describing best airlines to transfer too (sorry for my dumb technology knowledge)

Josh

What will it take they shouldn’t link it to your old account? Will just a new email address do it?

Shraga

What if my membership already expired?

Sfooz

Looks like amazon charges sales tax now on prime?
Seems odd since my state doesn’t charge sales tax on shipping charges

Is there any discount on Amazon Student? Even if not< Student would still be a better deal (if you can get it), no? Thanks.

Dan

@Maya:
It shares all of your personal info.

@Sfooz:
Read the post.

@Joe:
Try forums.dansdeals.com

@Josh:
Yes

@Shraga:
Then it should work.

@Sfooz:
If you have another address you can just change your state…

@Anonymous:
If you’re a student, sure. Though Student doesn’t get all the benefits.

Thanks Dan

Can I buy Prime at the discounted rate and then delay when it goes into effect? I still have 2 months on my existing Prime membership, so I don’t want them to overlap. So I’d like to buy Prime on a second account, delay it from going into effect for 2 months, then share it with my primary account at that time.

Sfooz

I did read the post and your follow up comments You said you can purchase with gift cards if buying a gift subscription. But the link says gift subscriptions are not eligible for promotions. So I am unclear how to use gift cards with this promotion for new gift subscription. You post Only indicates gift subscriptions didnt work for existing subscribers

How do you share prime with another account?

Dan's the Man

Dan, Does Amazon have retention offers the credit cards if you call to cancel?

Pete

I’m currently enrolled in a free trial that has 15 days left on it. If I cancel the free trial today, would I be considered a new member?

It really depends if you’re grandfathered into the older plan (where you can share with 3 others). If you’re not, then there’s no harm in trying.

I’m aware that Amazon was a x5/x10 on both Discover AND Freedom last month so I gave Amazon a call/chat and see if I can prepay my membership early while those offers were available. No go, and the bonus cash back isn’t worth the risk for me to lose my household members. So that sucks, but hey if there’s any workaround without using a credit card.. that would be so perfect. I’m sitting on Amazon credits I can’t use towards renewing another year.

If not, well, I’m taking a bullet for the rest of my members. Sucks because CASH BACK, but their happiness >> cashback.

The current member is fine too, but there’s less of a risk if you try the giftcard sub route. I’m waiting to see if others can circumvent it this weekend.
