Business class flights from NYC have climbed in price (though not before lots of readers and myself were able to nab bargain priced seats), but there are still amazing deals from Philadelphia.

I found business class fares from:

-Philadelphia to Rome nonstop for $273+30K Avios

ba21

-Philadelphia to Athens for $278+30K Avios (Service starts 03/26/16)

ba20

-Philadelphia to Paris for $338+30K Avios

To get these rates you’ll need to Use this link to access the BA AARP site.

AARP members get $400 off BA business class tickets. Anyone can join AARP for $16. Just click “Log in to your AARP account here” to join AARP for $16 or to login to your existing AARP account. (And it’s always worth a laugh when my guests wonder why I have “AARP The Magazine” in my stack of bathroom reading material 😀 )

Creating an account takes just a minute and as soon as you open an account you can make a login and then unlock the BA offer which can be used an unlimited amount of times.

Once you have an AARP account you can book discounted tickets for anyone.

Afte you are logged in just use the BA AARP link again (you may need to click on “verify membership) and search for flights in business class.

After selecting flights look for the Avios part-payment offers.

According to BA it’s a regular cash booking that also earns Avios for the flight. It’s not considered a redemption like using straight Avios or Avios+Cash which is subject to award availability.

That means you’ll get 15K Avios for flying Philadelphia-Athens round-trip.

Plus if you fly by 01/31 you can register here to earn an additional 25K bonus Avios.

Or you can register here for 25K bonus AA miles.

I can’t guarantee the 25K promotion will work with Avios part-payment, but I’m not seeing any reason why it wouldn’t.

Plus of course you’ll earn triple miles on the fare by using a card like the Chase British Airways Visa or the AMEX Premier Rewards Gold Card or the AMEX Business Gold Rewards Card.

In total the cost of the business class round-trip from to Rome or Athens would be 30K Avios plus $278, but you should get back 13K-15K base Avios+25K bonus Avios if you travel by 1/31+834 Avios for the airfare for a total of around 40K Avios.

In other words you’ll pay $275 and get back a net refund of about 10K Avios…assuming that the 25K promotion works out.

But even if it doesn’t, the net will be just $275 and 15K Avios for a round-trip business class fare. And that’s a fantastic deal!

Cancellations are permitted within 24 hours for free over the phone. After 24 hours the fee is a whopping $500 per ticket.

Once you are in Europe you can buy a separate ticket to get to Tel Aviv on the cheap from Priceline, like this one from Athens to Tel Aviv:

Dan

@David:
Not enforced.

eitang

Anyone see any deals from miami?

YYZer

@CtownBin: For the Extra few dollars thsi will cost (more then the lap child price) your going to ruin your first class trip. Book a seat for the kid and let him fall asleep in his car seat for the whole flight.

Oren

I think it’s dead now

Feo

I think so too – not letting me pick Business. And changes price to ~1500 when checking out

Pure

Blake

So that I’m clear, even though I used 30k Avois along with cash these are considered full revenue tickets booked in the indicated class, correct? Can I credit these miles to my Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan without issues?

Anonymous

@Pure: @Pure: I think by the time you were searchinh the deal was dead

tjp74

That deal… which made the fare about $400 lower than official sale price of $2015 before $400 AARP discount turned out to be a glitch fare. I kind of noticed it when I booked it… fare shows $0 and rest were all taxes and carrier imposed fee… website kind of acted weird too. I managed to book 4 tickets at that price but 2 of them with wrong arrival date so I called back to change that but the glitch was already discovered and corrected and BA called me back today and said it was a glitch and they will honor it but will not make the change unless I pay the difference of $400 per ticket.
oh well… half of my family will just stay at London one more day.

tjp74

@Blake:

Absolutely, this is a full fare ticket in (I) booking class. 150% of actual miles flown unless you have an elite status with Alaska. Make sure your booking has AS mileage number.

bs

for a flight to Madrid is it better to credit to BA or AA?
its in march so no 25k promotion

tjp74

@bs:

I believe you get 150% actual miles flown if you chose BA or Alaska miles. but for AA, it seems you only get 125% of actual miles flown. That is if you don’t have any elite status. Remember you get elite qualifying miles/points too on top of redeemable miles/points so if you are working to achieve status on one program then it’s a no brainer. It all depends which type of miles/points you value the most.

Anonymous

@tjp74:
thank you!

gvm

Thanks for the deal. I was able to book two trips next year, Rome and London for a family of 4. 240K Avois and $3300 for 2 trips.

herb

Is there anything similar for Canadians. Wish I could use this. Thanks.

Aaron

Thanks Dan!

Found tickets Phili-Rome for $1000 (and $280 after AVIOS redemption)

But didn’t yet register for the promotion.

Did we need to have registered for the 25,000 promotion BEFORE BOOKING, or can that still be done now?

Is there a different whether BA or AA promotion?

Thanks!

bob

is there any chance these tickets will be canceled? i’m looking at booking hotels now and some dont have refunds…
