-Limited seats are available on each date. Always search for 1 seat and then work your way up to the number of seats you need in order to book as many seats on sale as you can.
-The prices listed for the dates below are only valid for departure from Israel. US departures range from at $625-$845 and will be valid with most of the dates below.

-Yes, the airline and airport are safe to transit in. No, Kiev is not a war zone. Thousands of DansDeals readers have booked travel and arrived safely.

-The valid dates below have been cherry-picked to show flights with connections shorter than 4 hours.

For example from 11/05-11/15 the TLV-JFK flight has an 80 minute connection in Kiev and the JFK-TLV flight has a 170 minute connection in Kiev:

More dates will be available if you’re willing to stopover in Kiev for a longer period of time.

DD commenter “Aryeh” notes that he stopped over for longer in Kiev and for $100 he had a private driver (contact info here) take him to the gravesites of the Baal Shem Tov Zt’l, Rebbe Nachman Zt’l, and R’ Levi Yitzchok Zt’l. DD commenter Yakov had the same positive experience as well.

To help find dates with longer connections you can use Google’s ITA MatrixSee this post for a demonstration and then use advanced routing code:
PS+ / minconnect 240
Where PS+ limits the search to Ukraine Air flights only and the number 240 refers to the minimum amount of minutes that you wish to remain in Kiev. You can make that number any amount that you want.

For the dates below I used routing code
PS+ / maxconnect 240
to find flights that have connection with a maximum of 240 minutes.

You can perform that same search to find tickets departing JFK from $625

This airline is “you get what you pay for”. Seats were very narrow, the aircraft from JFK to Kiev did not have personal A/C vents, overhead bins were very small, and the flight segment from/ to TLV, was serviced like a budget airlines, no free drinks etc. So if these luxuries are important to you, just have this in mind.
BTW Dan, Google flight search seems to do a very good job with flight searching. I don’t have the head to do the matrix, especially because it’s not mobile friendly. What do you think?

Dan

You always get what you pay for 😀

Google Flights and ITA have their pluses and minuses. I find ITA to have time-out issues sometimes, but Google Flights misses good fares every time I’ve searched.

Google Flights also doesn’t have the ability to use the advanced routing codes, which are extremely powerful.

@Dan: But still better results than Kayak, and it first showes reasonable time connections. Kayak has no problem showing a 40 hour connection as default.

Make sure you take food with you if you are kosher. When you order kosher food, most likely you will not get it. One passenger on my flight received expired kosher food.

Thank you for posting this, and especially for the info about the Kiev airport!

Rivka

if you don’t want to fly through Moscow, you can book Alitalia for $602, many dates available

ExGingi

@Dan: usually you get what you pay for, sometimes you get less…. (Spirit anyone?)

mandel

sara

@Rivka
Would you know if alitalia flies sept 1? Also is this booked thru pricline as well?

louie

Keep in mind that if you want to leave the airport in Kiev you need need to get a visa for Ukraine.

Dan

@Rivka:
Where did you learn geography?

@louie:
False.
No visa is required.

You’re probably thinking of Moscow as well.

tovya

התורה חס על ממונם של ישראל we have also the same story that they took out from the luggage a bracelet וואס איז ביליג איז טייער

Dan

Can’t imagine why anyone would check valuable items in luggage.

The same thing happens on domestic flights every day.

Luggage is for clothes and other non-precious items. Period.

breslov
