El Al Matmid Discounted Coach Awards

El Al has a very decent spring/summer travel sale for coach awards across the globe, including travel between Tel Aviv and North America, South Africa, Europe, or the Far East. Click on the link above for full details.

Awards are discounted further for “Executives” and it’s pretty easy to become an executive.  A transfer of just 5,000 points from the US AMEX Membership Rewards program to El Al’s Matmid program will earn you executive status for a year. You should have executive status within about 24 hours from the transfer.

Note that transferred points expire after 36 months and can’t be extended with activity.

With this sale, executives will pay just 650 Matmid points one-way or 1,300 Matmid points for round-trip travel between JFK, Newark, or Toronto and Tel Aviv.  That’s equal to 65,000 AMEX points round-trip.  The normal summer price is 1,600 Matmid points (80K AMEX)

Tickets between Los Angeles and Tel Aviv for executives will be 750 points one-way or 1,500 points for round-trip travel. That’s equal to 75,000 AMEX points round-trip. The normal summer price is 2,000 Matmid points (100K AMEX)

But even better is that you’ll pay no fuel surcharges on these discounted awards! Normally those add $355, but with this sale you’ll pay just $69 tax on a round-trip flight!

-Valid for awards booked by May 3.
-Departures valid between May 1 and July 18, 2015.
-The return flight officially needs to be completed by July 31, but from searching it appears that the return can actually be done at any time at the discounted rate.

no discounted business awards?

Dan

“El Al has a very decent spring/summer travel sale for coach awards”

Moe

“Matmid points one-way or 1,300 Matmid points for round-trip travel between JFK, Newark, or Toronto and Tel Aviv. That’s equal to 65,000 AMEX points round-trip.”
Can you please explain how that calculation works out or give me a link to an article that explains these point transfers? Would love to use this sale but don’t understand how to use my Amex points this well… Thanks.

Ari

Dear Dan
Whats the metzia when normally you can get 54000 by matmid

Dan

@Moe:
Just plugin what you need here and it calculates it for you.
If you need 1,300 Matmid it will tell you to transfer in 65K AMEX points.

@Ari:
The spring/summer rate is 1,600 Matmid (80K AMEX)+$355.
With this it’s 1,300 Matmid (65K AMEX)+$69.

Not sure what you’re asking.

Isn’t it still a better value to fly Delta through an airfrance/KLM redemption?

Dan

@g:
Sure, as that’s only 50K AMEX points.

However El Al has significantly better availability than Delta does, so you just need to see what works best for you on your travel dates.

hello

Amex transfers to elal at what ratio, and can you transfer to matmid points? Can matmid points be bought and how much do they cost?

Dan

@hello:
See comments above and see this post: http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/51626

Te but that’s only for executive members not for regular matmid

jacob

Is there any deal with business class as well?

Chaya

Well’ I am missing some point to complete the amount needed for 4 tickets. Do u have a link I can read more abt what ‘g’ said?
would love to look into it.

Dan

@Anonymous:
Anyone can be an executive, just transfer 5K AMEX points to El Al and you’ll be an executive within a day!

@jacob:
No.

@Chaya:
See link in comment 9. Or search this site for Flying Blue.

BBPAPA

@Dan:

Is your post from january still accurate as far as miles required for travel for the different airlines/alliances?

Dan

@BBPAPA:
It’s in need of updates for ANA and BA. Otherwise should be OK still.

hi

Can you buy these points with money

Iz

Dan,
Terrific post (as usual).
What’s the best way to send you a private message that you’ll actually see (and maybe even reply to)?
As you occasionally mention, not all messages should be posted in public. (You can reply by PM, if you prefer.)
Thanks.

Ron

Is there an easy way to search award flights on multiple airlines? I have so many AMEX points and SPG points and want to book first class flights to Israel for my wife and I. Any suggestion?

SM

I have tickets booked in June using Matmid points (and the fuel surcharge). Can I get a refund for those tickets and rebook without the surcharge?

yossi

can you get this with the has reward points

David R

Is the part about Flying Blue a typo? Did you mean El Al?

J fried

Hey dan thanks a mill for everything, any specials for flights from nyc to TLV from sep. 20 to oct. 8 ? Plz respond. Tnx again.

AW

I actually just booked two tickets for 2600 points + $139.
I called elal and they told me transfer amex points which takes only 24hrs to deposit into ur elal acct rather than Has advantage points which can take 10 days or so.
I transfered amex points and within 2 hours they were in my elal acct which made me an executive member and enough points for the tickets.

y.g

Can I do it with chase sapphire points?. Thanks

same deal for tickets flying direct Boston to Tel Aviv?

Rivka

Will this same deal work on tickets direct from Boston to Tel Aviv?
We need 3 additional tickets that we have points for.
Should we buy points, or buy the tickets directly?
How to buy points?
Can SPG transfer to ElaL for ticket?
Thank you for all your help. A dream for our family to go to Israel.

Rochel

Can I do one way to travel to Israel July 19th or is that too late?

Rochel

Mistake- Can I do one way July 29 from NY or round trip, returning in August using this promo?

dealfinder

Is there any way to know whether the award availability will still be around when my amex point transfer is complete?

Great Grandma

@Moe: Honestly and without being too unkind, if you can’t work this out, maybe you should get a companion to help you along onthe journey.

Aurit

I just transferred 520K Amex points into my matmid account. I see the points in my account but I’m not executive status. Does it take time from when the points go into my account to when my status is upgraded?

Executive

I have the same problem as @Aurit (with 5K AMEX), where would I be able to see that I have executive status?

Dan

@Iz:
My email is listed on this page.

@Ron:
Nope.
Start here: http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/51626

@SM:
Doubt they’d do that for free.

@y.g:
No, if you could have then I would have written that.

@Anonymous:
No.

@Rochel:
No.

@dealfinder:
Transfers are instant or just about instant.

@Aurit:
@Executive:
Read the post!

Anonymous

How many Amex points would I need to transfer to book one way ticket with this executive promotion

also i assume you mean minimum of 5000 not exactly 5000 Amex points to attain executive status?

Martin Loewinger

Anyone have any luck just trying to get fuel surcharges refunded??

Mr Miles

Can this be one way?
will it be half the points?
TLV-NY

wondering

is this also available for tel aviv to ny round trip

Anonymous

-The return flight officially needs to be completed by July 31, but from searching it appears that the return can actually be done at any time at the discounted rate.

you may want to delete the above paragraph as
i just spoke to elal to process an award tkt and being return was after july 31 2015 i was charged the reg award tkt fees of 376.00

ari

@wondering:
yes

Anonymous

@Mr Miles:

can some one kindly answer this question as we need to know how many amex points to move over for one way

yitzi

does it work with spg points?

Aurit

If your return is after July 31 the transaction won’t go through, you get an error message telling you to call and when you call they’ll tell you it’s more points to return after July 31.

bukin86

To get 650 Matmid points ( enough for 1-way economy) you need 32,500 Amex points.

Anonymous

hi dan are you sure are executive status within 24 hours? I transferred 32500 points from amex to EL AL and still don’t see executive status? how would i know I have executive status anyway?

dealfinder

Did anyone else have that experience with July 31 or did anyone have an August ticket go through at the reduced mileage?

Hillel

Hi,
Can someone please help me. I am trying to book a flight in June JFK to TLV. There are no more Bonus tickets available for the flight I need. I am a Matmid Executive and just need to know if I tranfer my Amex miles into Matmid giving me 900 Matmid Points, how much would my $1650 flight be? No one at ElAL can give me that answer. They just say transfer the points over and you will see online. I Don’t want to transfer all my amex points to get $200 off.

Thanks
