American Will Honor $442 Business Class Tickets To China; From Aurora Borealis Hunting To Posting Deals…

This past Tuesday night I managed to type up a post while on an Aurora Borealis hunt about $442 business class tickets to China on American.

The base fare on the tickets was $0, which American initially tried using as a reason to not honor the fares.  But in the end all purchased tickets will be honored.

American will not be honoring tickets if you only held the reservation, though some people who had their holds cancelled were able to call up and have it reinstated.

Bottom line is, don’t rely on award holds during price mistakes. Book first, ask questions second. And don’t forget to book a seat for your infant!
Another lesson from past mistakes is to fly quickly if possible.

During United’s 4 mile glitch to Hong Kong and the London first class glitch, those that traveled right away (there are trip reports posted on DDF) had their full itineraries honored. In 2012 Mimi and I were en-route to Buenos Aires within 2 hours of booking first class glitch tickets. Though that takes a lot flexibility.

If you landed business class tickets to China and you have or know of anyone that has a systemwide upgrade you can even upgrade the ticket to first class, as American has no minimum fare requirement on their systemwide upgrades.

In case you’re interested about my half of the story and why my post on the deal was rather succinct.

I was still reeling from missing out on a DDF Photography DO to Iceland that took place in late February. DDF photography guru “Something Fishy” leads Photo DOs that are legendary. Last January 4 DDF members flew to Cleveland where we took incredible pictures during the polar vortex before I grilled up some steaks for the DO.

We had an awesome trip to Israel, but I missed out on this bucket list experience:

So on Tuesday when I read that the northern lights would be viewable due to a solar storm and clear conditions I went out to the country looking for them.  And yes, I had a laptop with me just in case there would be a deal.

Ironically my brother alerted me to the deal on DDF and it was posted by none other than Something Fishy who referenced Lucky’s post on the deal. I’ve already heard from several people who got tickets to China thanks to the post, so having the laptop proved worthwhile!

I did get some pictures which of course aren’t in the same realm as Something Fishy’s otherworldly pictures.  Then again mine were taken in Cleveland, not Iceland, and I don’t know a thing about post-processing.

Ever so faint, but it is there:

Since it was a mistake, is there anyway to cancel the ones I booked?
You think there will be the option of canceling on their part since it was a mistake?
If not, to your knowledge, is there anyway to cancel

Dan, IINM, all AA tickets are non-refundable, because you can put them on hold. If that’s true, you should put a disclaimer in the post, after where you say book first ask question second.

Dan

@noturbizniss:
Lol

@thanks:
Awesome!

@AnonymousUser:
I wrote that in the original post.
Also AA tickets booked via Priceline/Orbitz are refundable.
