Update: Hilton has posted that this promotion is now officially live.  If you change your password between today and 03/25 you’ll get 1,000 Hilton points.

————————————————————————————

Hilton has been the target of hackers taking over people’s account and draining them. Loyalty programs don’t hold account owners at fault for that, but it’s always important to monitor your accounts to make sure that doesn’t happen to you.

They’ve added an annoying captcha on their website to help combat that, but a verified Hilton representative writes that Hilton will award 1,000 points to anyone that changes their existing password or that creates a new password between 02/19 and 03/08. Going forward PINs will no longer be accepted.

1. Click here to login to your account with your existing password or PIN.
2. On the left-hand side, under the “My Profile” section, click “Personal Information.”
3. Either change your existing password or create a new password if you don’t have one yet. Your new password must be at least 8 characters, contain at least 1 upper case letter, and contain at least 1 number or 1 special character.

1,000 Hilton points aren’t worth much, but they will extend the validity of your account balance for another year as you can see from this chart I posted yesterday.

I thought hilton recently sold the Waldorf Astoria chain.

Dan

You thought wrong.

They sold the WA NYC to a franchisee, but that makes no difference from a consumer perspective.

matovu

Thanks Dan for the HT

Did you do any research lately on the kashrus situation ?

how do you use weekend night for weekday?

Jason

When will the points post. How many times can you change your pw and earn points?

Dan T

When can we expect the points to arrive in our account?

Rose

How long does it take the 1000 points to post?

Re: Update…..So now what should we do if we already did?

mo

is there a way around the Citi Hilton Reserve card $95 annual fee?

silver

“Well officially they are only useable on weekend nights”
Is there a trick to this? Or it just also works for regular nights without issue?
Thanks

Calling out Mooches

@mo: Why would you ask that? If you want the card, there is a fee. You wouldn’t walk into a steakhouse, order surf and turf for $65 and ask, is there any way around that cost? Dumb.

I’m going to do it now AND later, what have I got to lose?

AsherO

Scrap that, now I understand why 1,000 mysteriously posted to my account…

M

Hi all,

Just to reiterate, we encourage you to hold on changing your password until we have more information to share. As we are experiencing technical issues, you will not receive Bonus Points by changing your password at this time and you will still be required to change your password at a later date, when we have updates to share.

Again, apologies for this confusion and thanks for your feedback as we work through this new change – I am sharing your experiences with my team in real time!

Cheers,
Erin

Looks like you’re new over here, this issue a place we’re we get ideas how to save/earn money! So sit back and listen and shut-up or get back to the planet you’re coming for from!!!!!

Tuck

Dan, thanks for the update. When the technical glitch with Hilton’s website is fixed, will you please do a separate (new) post so we get a notification. If you just update this one, it’s harder to stay on top of the situation.

U da man.

Calling out Mooches

@Sam: I am not new to DansDeals. Dan is the man and I appreciate all he does. BTW, when trying to insult someone, try to make sense. Your last statement makes absolutely no sense. Thanks for playing, dumb@$$.

Sam

@calling out mooches if you’re an old timer you know that this blog is all about saving money and you would understand what mo asked
Btw I didn’t mean yo insult you, and if it did come across that way I ask you forgiveness but you defendantly tried to insultme bbut let me tell you calling name is a sign of weakness!
P.s. the fact you didn’t understand my first command proves you’re not from our planet! SAVE TRIP BACK!!

Calling out Mooches

@Sam: Save trip back? Save what trip? Saving on trips is great! My guess is you meant SAFE trip back. Geez you really are a dumb@$$.

Calling out Mooches

@Sam: Wow…I am from earth. On earth, in America, we speak English. Please explain the word “defendantly”. Please explain the statement “my first command” Don’t you mean comment? Whew, reading your comments is painful.

@Calling out Mooches: I think this person is using a smartphone with auto correct. Then this person isn’t proofreading before posting.

@Dan @dg Point of clarification. The building that is The Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC was sold to new owners. Hilton no longer owns the building. But it is operated by Hilton employees. A franchise is when a management company other than Hilton operates the hotel with its employees but pays a fee to Hilton to fly the Hilton flag.

@Anonymous:

I’d like to know this as well
