is it worth paying with discover and not amex-losing the extra warranty? does the extra warranty become void if the card is canceled?

Yes, it’s probably worth paying with an the extra $10 for using an AMEX for the return+warranty+purchase protections that AMEX has and discover does not.Plus you’ll get Starpoints on the purchase.
I do believe that you lose the warranty if you cancel the card.
