Update: Today is the final day to register for this promotion!  Once registered you’ll have until 12/15 to update your stay preferences.

I updated my preferences on 11/10 and the points posted for my birthday on 11/26.

Originally posted on 11/10:

Register for Starwood’s latest promotion (double or triple points on paid stays) here and you’ll also be registered for 500 free Starpoints just for updating your stay preferences.

After registering, just click here to update any of your stay preferences.

Starwood points officially expire after 12 months of inactivity, though it’s actually only enforced after 18 months. So 500 points will extend the validity of your account for 18 months.  Though Starwood is one of the best about reactivating expired points when you ask nicely (British Airways is surprisingly nice as well).

“Do you have another Starwood Preferred Guest Number? Go to Combine Accounts”

Is this something I want to do? Or will it mean that I can only do each promotion once?

Dave

I just registered and changed my preferences, but I didn’t see anything about 500 points.

Love Bonus Points

@Dave: Dan has powers to see things us mere mortals can’t.

@Dave: Click the first link and you’ll see the following: “MORE CHOICES TOO. Update your stay preferences on your spg.com profile to personalize your stay and earn 500 bonus Starpoints® from October 15 to December 15, 2014.”

Alen

Is it possible to get double with an additional card?

Yoel

I registered via your link but after I updated my preferences there was no mention of the 500 starpoints.

“Registered members are eligible to receive 500 bonus Starpoints”

Moe

Points will post “2-4 weeks after the end of the promotion period”

Moe

Link to update prefs won’t open by me… Please advise. Thanks!

Anonymous

Do points expire if you have and use an spg credit card

Dan

@Anonymous:
Every time to earn or redeem a point it extends your account for 18 months.

samuel

you can open a few more spg accounts on your name, change preferences. get 500 points for each account. then combine accounts

Ron

If I have AU’s on the account, can I get extra points for them as well? Thank you.

mendy from lakewood

got my 500 points 11/26! thanks dan

mendy from lakewood

dan, you wrote in this post that starwood points expires after 1 year, is that only true if you have no account activity?

Dan

@mendy from lakewood:
Read what I wrote again.

Nachamah

@ybeeds:I did that and did not get any message about additional points being added even though the changes were saved

David R

Thanks, got the points!

Abe

How come I don’s see such a link?

Mark

Dan, I’m past the 12 month, if I have activity now b4 the 18 months, will my points be deleted?

Ron

@Ron: To answer my own question:
I called Amex and was told that this promo only works for the primary cardholder (even if the AU has his own SPG #).

יוסי

As usual very worth full tweets.

Trying to register for another card under another name, different address, but when I click on “enroll and register”, nothing happens!

Dan

@Ron:
This has nothing to do with AMEX, not sure why you thought that.

Anyone has has an SPG.com account can do this and get 500 points.

Ron

@Dan: Thanks, Dan. Now I got it!

Mark

Dan, I’m past the 12 month, if I have activity now b4 the 18 months, will my points still be deleted?
