AMEX Gold Charge Card Linky (Free for first year, Earn 10,000 AMEX MR Bonus Points after you spend $500.) AMEX MR points transfer to Flying Blue miles at 1:1.

20,000 Starwood Starpoints transfer into 25,000 Flying Blue (Air France and KLM’s joint loyalty program) miles.

That is all you will need to have to get to Israel or any other “European” destination through 10/31/09!

S.B.S. previously made an excellent 8 page PDF examining every way of getting to Israel via Starpoints.

In that article he pointed ways of getting to Israel for 40,000 Starpoints or less (Via transferring Starpoints to JAL, British Airways, LAN, or Flying Blue)

Through 10/31/09 there is a promo award to/from many cities in North America and Europe Zones 1, 2, or 3.

The promo award cost between North America and “Europe” in flying blue miles is:
Coach: 12,500 miles one way, 25,000 miles round trip.
Business: 25,000 miles one-way, 50,000 miles round trip.

For travel on KLM tickets the valid dates vary by city, so check the promo award page for the details.
For travel on Air France tickets must be booked by 07/29/09, and travel must be completed by 07/31/09.

Valid North American cities for origin or destination on Air France:
-Philadelphia
-Washington D.C.

Valid North American cities for origin or destination on KLM:
-Atlanta
-Calgary
-Chicago
-Dallas
-Detroit
-Houston
-Los Angeles
-Montreal
-NYC/JFK
-S. Francisco
-Washington D.C.

This is how Flying Blue defines Europe:
Europe 1: Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Netherlands, and Switzerland
Europe 2: Austria, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden
Europe 3: Albania, Algeria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Libya, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Western Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Tunisia, Ukraine, and Yugoslavia

As Flying Blue considers Israel to be part of Europe (zone 3), it qualifies as a valid origin or destination.

The promo awards can only be flown with KLM via Amsterdam or with Air France via Paris, they are not valid on Skyteam partners such as Continental or Delta (although nonstop travel to Israel on those carriers is allowed on the regular 40,000 Starpoints/50,000 Flying Blue miles award to Europe zone 3 in coach or 80,000 flying blue miles in business.)

Flying Blue Promo Awards Linky

Unfortunately, you cannot search online for mileage availability on Flying Blue unless you have the required miles in your account.

A stopover in Amsterdam or Paris is allowed and will make finding mileage availability easier.

The best bet for checking availability will be by calling Flying Blue at 1-800-375-8723

There is a four hundred dollar fee for taxes flying with Air France or KLM to Israel. On American the cost is seventy dollars. It may not be the best bargain.
How can I transfer my starpoints as quickly as possible?

yak

can you transfer delta or other sky team member points into flyblue points?

Dan/Ctownbochur

@HG:
When I checked in May Air France wanted $230 in taxes/fees to Israel, you may want to recheck those numbers now to see what the current number is.

@yak:
No.

BG

Dan – I have American Advantage points. Is there anything I can do with them??

Jo

The 25,000 roundtrip to TLV is a web special and when I called the 800 number, they said that they can not give me availability for web specials. So unless you have 25,000 miles in the account, there’s no way to find out what your options are.

Mendel

Can I transfer Starwood point to Delta on a 1:1 ratio and then use the mileage to fly on Continental? Instead of transferring directly to Continental for a 2:1 ratio

Dan/Ctownbochur

@BG:
50,000 AA transfers into 100,000 Hilton.
100,000 Hilton transfers into 10,000 Flying Blue.

Its generally never worthwhile to transfer miles from one airline to another.

@Jo:
The regular award availability over the phone should be the same as online.

@Mendel:
Sure, but you’ll be subject to Delta’s rates. You may be better off with transferring to another Skyteam program, like Alitalia or Flying Blue.
Also be aware that Continental is leaving Skyteam in October for Star.

BG

thanks Dan for your quick reply. I’ve only seen you post deals on starwood points. Since most of my points are advantage – can you help me on this? Thanks.

Mike

How long does it take for the Starwood Points to transfer to Flying Blue? There are only ten days left on this promotion.

loyal reader

I appreciate you telling us about this offer….but can you tell us step by step how to go about getting it? I have the available mileage for 2 biz class tickets to Israel…and I would like to ‘chap arein’. thanks

Dan/Ctownbochur

@BG:
That’s because Starwood points have literally millions of uses and there are always new deals to be found.

AA miles are straightforward, they can be used on AA or a partner. What kind of help do you need?

@Mike:
Starwood typically posts mileage transfer once per week, if anyone knows what day they post to Flying Blue please post a comment!

Also although the current promo must be booked by 06/21 for KLM, the promo has been around for some time now, I’m sure it will continue to be offered.

From a wiki on http://www.flyerguide.com/wiki/index.php/Starwood_Preferred_Guest_Award_Redemption

How long it takes

Hotel awards are instant, no certificate is required. Merchandise certificates will be processed within 2-4 weeks. Allow 2-4 weeks for miles to be posted to frequent flyer accounts.

[edit]Expedited Award Delivery

Rush transfer of points to American Airlines AAdvantage, United Airlines Mileage Plus, or British Airways Executive Club. SPG will expedite Starpoint transfers to these airline partners only. They require approval by an SPG supervisor, can take from 3-5 business days, and are only offered to members with severe time constraints. The cost is 3,500 Starpoints.

Dan how do you know the points will transfer to flying blue by the 21st. Starwoods website says Please note that airline transfer awards may require 2-4 weeks handling and processing time for U.S. carriers and 4-6 weeks handling and processing time for non-U.S. carriers.
This would be a great deal for me since I plan on going back to the US and I now have 20,000 Starwoods points which would be enough for two one way ticket on KLM. I don’s want to put in the transfer and then miss the deal. Thanks for the help.

shimon

dan! did i read right?? 30000 points for starwood for the first 15000 you spend? are those bonus points besides for the “one point per dollar spent”?? is that a new offer??

Jo

The posting makes it sound as if there is availability between now and 10/31, but this isn’t the case for every city. For example, NYC and LA can be booked now, but travel is only b/w 9/1 and 10/31.

Dan/Ctownbochur

@Mike:
I’ve had SPG points transfer in 3 days in the past. Obviously there is no guarantee that it will transfer on time though.

@shimon:
No, that’s counting the point per dollar spent. After you spend $15K on the card your balance will be 40,000 Starpoints.

@Jo:
Seems like they must have just changed the chart, or I totally missed that. Thanks for the update.

aaron

Hi. I have about 15k-16k starpoints, and 10k points from my gold charge card. can I use these to get to israel, and if so, how?
thanx

Bz

What happens if you book & fly there before 10/31, but for the return trip you want to change the flight. How much do changes cost? Do they cost? Will that work to change my return to next summer?

jake1

hey with this promo will it work with any of the skyteam members just that it needs to be done through flyingblue?
or is it strictly a flyingblue promo and no other partner points allowed ????

Eli

If anyone is having trouble with the transfer going through, do the transfer online or over the phone, and then call up and ask them to place the “B0” code (Bee Zero) on the account along with a note that you need the points transferred immediately. This will cause it to be seen by the research dept almost immediately (usually within 24 hours) and they should be able to push the point transfer through right away. DO NOT RELY ON THIS THOUGH – I take no responsibility if it does not work.

Mike

I transferred 20,000 starwoods points to Flying Blue on Friday and they are in the account this morning. The problem is there is no availability at all our of TLV to the US for one way tickets or round trips. I was able to find 12,500 one ways out of Europe. Is there anything that I can do to book a ticket out of TLV. Will calling them on the phone work.
Thank You

d

anyone want to sell me 2 tix to israel (coach) for the first week of july?

F

I have searched many dates and cant find anything available from the JFK to TLV on any day. Does any one know of any availabilities?

chani

Has anyone actually made a reservation on KLM or Air France? If yes can you tell me what the taxes and fees were? Thanks so much.

Mike

Just a report, I transfered 20,000 Starwoods points to Flying Blue a week ago Friday. The points were in the Flying Blue account by Tuesday morning. However no availability was showing out of TLV at all which was obviously a computer glitch because the promotion was showing out of most European destinations. I finally called Flying Blue on Friday the last business day before Sunday’s deadline and the only solution they would offer me is to fax them my screenshot. They called back today and allowed me to book two one-way from TLV-ORD for Oct 19 for 12,500 points each. The taxes and fees were a little high at $368.25 for each ticket, but it was a lot less then what one-way are going for right now.

Dan/Ctownbochur

@Mike:
$368.25 for a one-way ticket??? That has to be a mistake!

chani

@Mike: I think you got ripped off big time. Even if that is the total amount, in my opinion 20k starwood and $370 is a good but not great deal for an Israel ticket.

MEN

Is there anyway this promotion is still going on? Dan How much would you charge to book a flying blue ticket for me?
