Cedar Point, located an hour west of Cleveland Hopkins, has been voted the world’s best amusement park for 16 years running.
Admission is normally $59.99 but if you buy tickets online today you can grab them for just $29.99, the largest discount I’ve seen this year. You need to use the tickets by 08/17.
There’s good reason for consistently being ranked as the best park, the coasters there are pure awesomeness and are on an entirely different playing field than the collection in any other park in the world. I was there last week for the first time in a few years and there’s really no better way to spend a day. People in line came from places from Kansas to Brazil to spend time at Cedar Point as well as the plethora of beach and water activities along the Lake Erie coast and the Lake Erie Islands.
The new Gatekeeper is an incredibly smooth winged ride experience. Millennium Force has been ranked the best coaster in the world since its inception and there’s good reason for that, at several points during the ride there is the awesome feeling of pure weightlessness, not something you feel on too many coasters. I actually stick my knees out so that the harness is further away (no worries, there’s also a buckle) so that I can get a few more seconds of airtime. Top Thrill Dragster gives an incredible adrenaline rush and Maverick is a can’t miss as well. Oh, and there’s a dozen others like Magnum XL-200, Raptor, and more.
There’s a Camp Snoopy ride area for kids as well.
If you want to really get your rides in, you should splurge for the Fast Lane pass. It’s very pricey ($80 per person when buying 4 passes), but if you just have one day and want to get lots of rides in then it’s invaluable. But the truth is that DisneyWorld charges over $100 for tickets nowadays, so $110 for Cedar Point admission with Fast Lane at a park that is far more fun than Disney for anyone over the age of 9, may not be a terrible idea.
But the kicker for us last week was the Coke Freestyle fun. For $9.99 I got a 32 ounce bottle with unlimited drink refills all day long. There are several Coke Freestyle machines located throughout the park. If you haven’t yet used a Coke Freestyle machine you should really try to find one. You can select from all of the different Coke brands (Sprite, Sprite Zero, Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Coke Caffeine Free, Powerade, Seagram’s, Fanta, etc, etc.) Once you select the type you can create your own drink by adding flavors like Lime, Vanilla, Cherry, Peach, Raspberry, Strawberry, Grape, Orange, etc. And you can even use the Freestyle app to program your own combo of say 30% Coke Lime, 25% Cherry Coke, and 45% Sprite Vanilla.
I’m pretty sure we must have made 100 drinks combos in just 1 day 😀

If you go on a Tuesday you can walk on most rides without waiting. Millennium Force had an hour line, but down to 40 minutes midday. The Coke deal is worthwhile to prevent dehydration.

Yup, probably no need for fast lane on Tuesday/Wednesday.
Coke deal is fun, but all stands give out free ice water.
What hotels are nearby that you can use UR or Starwoods points for?

Closest would be Cleveland airport an hour away.
If you want to be around kosher food there’s an SPG in Beachwood, OH, that’s 70 minutes away from Cedar Point.
If you want to do other activities around Sandusky (Safari, Lake Erie Islands, beach etc) then pay the greenbacks.
Groupon often has deals for one of the many waterpark hotels in Sandusky.
Coke isn’t good for you. Drink water.

I actually only drink water or seltzer in my house. That doesn’t mean I didn’t have a really fun time with unlimited use of the Freestyle machine.
dan! we go to six flags in nj (15min from lakewood) all the time got 19.99 season passes which included hurricane harbor water park and free parking plus all other six flags free)
the highlight is the freestyle coke its great! usually you can never get diet with flavors unless you bought a bottle now it all changed!
we bought a bottle for 14 bux and buy a $5 unlimited refill bracelet every time we return to the park
don’t forget the free parent pass that you can use to get the kids on the rides twice every time you wait online!

Anyone who enjoys coasters has to make the trip out to Cedar Point. Do it once and you’ll want to return every year.
I agree Dan. Six Flags Great Adventure cannot compare with Cedar Point. (I had been to Cedar Point first and then visited Great Adventure and was really disappointed)
