Yay! I just got a price reduction for a order I made on Amazon August 30th for a Rowenta DZ5080 Focus Stainless-Steel 1700-Watt Iron, I paid $73.55 & now its $66.99. And best of all I used the “Have-Amazon-Call-Me”.

    Thanks Dan!

    Hey Dan,

I’m gonna be spending some time in Israel, and I want to use credit cards there – however – most credit cards charge you 2 – 3 % for foreign currency transactions.

I have foudn out that capital one does not charge you that. Considering the miles I receive w/ capital one are almost worthless, do you think it makes sense to save 2 – 3 cents on the dollar or to get miles – in other words, how much are those AA miles or starwood points really worth – are they worth more than 3 cents a pop??

I think this would make for a great article.

    Thanks

AMEX charges 2% for foreign transactions and offers a lot more protections and benefits than capital one does besides for the points.

I would definitely use my Starwood card over a capital one card, even at a 2% premium.

Dan, could you be more specific about which benefits / protections the starwood has over the capital one which make a difference? For example, in terms of protections, many (if not all) credit cards do not offer you the same protections if you are in a foreign country.

Also, its not like I won’t have my amex with me – but if I’m spending a lot of money on basic food shopping, where most of the amex perks don’t apply, maybe it doesn’t make sense to pay the 2% premium. I’m sure you agree with me, that its better to pocket the 2% rather than get AAmiles – the only real debate is about SPG…
