can someone explain to me what is so unique about these pots that make them so pricy? Why are they better than ordinary pots?

Look at the name. It is French! Is that not enough to justify the price ?! … LOL

these things last forever. they don’t break easily, they’re solid construction, they hold heat very well, and they’re classic. i bought my first one over 20 years ago and it’s still going strong. bought another for my sister. worth every penny.

Heads up to the kosher keepers- many (most) cast iron appliances come coated with seasoned oil. It is tough to remove it and kasher the pot.

@Joe: LE CREUSET FACTS: Firstly-This Le Creuset, as most of their line, is coated in enamel. Therefore it does not need “seasoning” with oil as traditional cast iron cookery does. Apologies, I am unaware if enameled pots come pre-seasoned, which may cause kashruth issues.
Secondly-cast iron is prized for its ability to retain heat so foods are moist and flavorful. Le Creuset enameled cookery is enameled thereby allowing easy cleanup.
Thirdly-average cooks would suffice with one LC pot unlike typical “metal pots” where a set is needed for various purposes.
My mother’s 50 year old LC engagement gift is still perfect but too small for my size family. I bought a larger one in an outlet which we use every Shabbos.
