Shoprite does sell gift cards.

When you follow the link to sign up I believe it says in the details that shoprite home/online orders are eligible, but only if you pay with the AMEX card.

Still not sure if gift cards qualify though.

Gift cards purchased in store should work. They also sell the visa gift cards, and many gas and other gift cards in store.

Please do not call to ask if gift cards worked..

I just used my AMEX to purchase 6, $25 gas gift cards along with some other groceries at shoprite in NJ. I immediately received an email from AMEX stating “Thank you for using your registered American Express Card ending in xxxxx.”

My ShopRite had the $200 visa gift cards with a $6.95 fee, you can also get a ShopRite gift card (any amount), they also had gift cards to Gulf, Hess, and BP.

Remember, if you have ink bold or other cards that earn extra on gas you may nit want to but gas gift cards

I assume that you can rack up a purchase to $300 and use 2 credit cards to pay.

Not a scam, it shows up on my online account as registered under offers.
Also they don’t even ask for your expiration date or security# so that is not enough info to use your card for purchases. Must be some other way someone got your info

Only Paypal is accepted for buying Shop-Rite Brand Gift Cards online. Will this promotion still work if I use my Amex as the card I’m using to pay via Paypal?

I remember a couple of years ago , AMEX had a similar deal with Costco. Wish I knew then that all I had to do was buy Costco gift cards.Live and learn. Thanks Dan for the Shoprite tip,you saved me a whole bunch of money.

I can confirm that it will work on giftcards. I did 3 a couple of days ago and I already got the statement credits. Time to head back to shoprite 😉

Speed of credit posting has slowed down a lot. It used to post one day after charge,now I am still waiting from Friday’s activity. Has anyone made a purchase on Friday and see the credit post yet?

So far I made $150+ of regular Shoprite purchase (2 days ago, with NO gift cards) and have not received the credit.

I used my 5 Amex’s to buy 5 $200 Visa Gift cards for $206.95. I did them in different transactions obviously. So far I received my $30 credit 2 business days after the transaction.

i just bought all the gift cards i needed and put 150 on each card in the same transaction. so for a 600 balance i broke it up into 4 cards plus the fees!

@DanR NYC:shoprite cards have no fee. I am not sure that they will let you buy visa with gift cards. Waldbaums wont.
@Moish: This could actually be a difficult SAT question. Although it is a 20% discount you now have to factor is how many points you also get on your amex card for the purchase. Some cards give up to 6% back in supermarkets.

@Kevin. If I can buy the ShopRite gift cards, at no additional fee, I would do so for ShopRite use (my kids have a huge appetite, ans $30 off $150 is a steal)…I hope the credit posts….after these purchase. Heading to SRite tonight…. Thanks

Use your AMEX Blue cash card. It should rack up another 6% on purchases at Shoprite, including gift cards.

I just bought the 3 visa gift cards and the cashier just charge 150 to each credit card! Didn’t have to buy the shoprite giftcards.

Btw Dan, I got an email from Bluebird stating that you can now load your bluebird card with a debit card without a fee. Meaning, that you can now transfer funds from a debit card to bluebird online without Wal-Mart. If this works for those visa cards, things just got even easier! 🙂

dan whats the upside of buying SR cards first and then buying VISA GC? Im assuming that if you want to buy a $150 visa gift card you still have to pay fee even if you use the SR card.

There is no $150 Visa GC, just $200.

The ideal way is to buy 3×200 using 4 AMEX cards.

The Shoprite I went to didn’t have $200 Visa GC, only $100 denominations. When I tried to buy 4 of the $100 ones and use 3 different SPG cards, they freaked out. They said they couldn’t split the purchase onto 3 credit cards, and couldn’t believe that I had 3 of the same cards. I just ended up buying Shoprite gift cards, and will try to use those to buy Visa gift cards next week. If that doesn’t work, I guess I’ll just be shopping at Shoprite for a few weeks…

Yeah, like newdanfan, I tried to buy the $200 Visa GCs, and they only had $100s. The fee for the $100s was $6, which seemed usurious. So I also just bought the Shoprite cards. I do the majority of my food shopping at Shoprite, so the 20% discount would be a good deal, and it will only take me a few months to go through $600. Still, I’d rather “cash out” with gift cards. I do remember Shoprite having some other GC promos — like get a $10 rebate if you buy a $50 gas card — so perhaps if I wait and hold on to the Shoprite GC I can score an even better deal.

Checked 4 Shoprites in southern CT. None of them will sell gift cards (even shoprite gc’s) with a credit card. Cash or debit only. That said, I did buy $150 of groceries on one of the cards and had no trouble getting the $30 credit. Just means I won’t be able to get the $30 on my other 12 AMEX cards, which is probably the way AMEX would want it.

By the way the Blue Cash CC from AMEX has no annual fee and allways gives you 3 points per dollar spent @shoprite and @path mark!

Shoprite in Lakewood has only $100 or less gift card. I did a shopping + $100 Shoprite gift card for a total of over $150. Meanwhile got an email thank you for using registered card. I called Shoprite of Brick and they have $200 visa cards and Jackson has $250 visa. Jackson (spoke to a female named Sam) said you can buy the visa gift cards with Shoprite gift cards, Brick said can not.

Shoprite in lakewood and in jackson are both out of visa gift cards they only have $100 and below. I bought the last three $200 in jackson and they let me purchase them with sr gift cards without a problem

my credit showed up in each account and I went Friday (talk about last minute ) but each card show two -30 credits….I think that’s an error -any reason id get double?

@YY:Me too! I tried calling them(twice) and I think they just make up answers so that they don’t have to do anything. The first rep told me that because the promo was so popular that it will take longer for the credit to show up. I called again a couple of days later and the rep said they won’t look into it until 8 weeks pass. Basically, “please call again and get a different rep so that I don’t have to deal with this problem.” Obviously, there is a glitch that skipped several days to a week and then started giving others double credit.

I also got credited twice. I guess many have this wonderful problem 🙂

Happy to report that all outstanding “$30” credits have posted on Saturday the 26th.

Finally got AMEX to give me the credit. It had to be a SINGLE purchase of $150 or more. I did not realize that from the news release or their flyer; my COMBINED purchases were more than $150. So I had to “fight” with a CS rep who had her supervisor speak with me and he agreed that the word SINGLE was not clear enough and he gave me the credit.
