Update, 08/27: The Holiday Inn Ashkelon and Intercontinental Kiev have both run out of discounted rooms.  They are now back at their normal year-round rates of 10,000 points and 30,000 points per night respectively.  With the $35 trick that makes the Holiday Inn Ashkelon cost $70 and the Intercontinental Kiev cost $210, both good deals compared to their normal paid rates.

IHG PointBreaks Linky

The current list is valid for stays through 10/31. Hotels can sell out of discounted rooms quickly.

———————————————————————————

-The Holiday Inn Ashkelon, Israel is on the list.  DDF Moderator Chaikel stayed there the last time it was available for PointBreaks and had a very nice stay, you can read about it in his trip report here. A room there for this Thursday is $180+tax=$212 or 5,000 points. That’s a value of 4.24 cents per point!

-The Intercontinental Kiev is also on the list. A room there for this Thursday is €310 (US $415) or 5,000 points. That’s a value of 8.3 cents per point!
With thousands of people flocking to Uman next week for the new year I’m sure this hotel will now be full of religious Jews as well. Kiev is about 2 hours north of Uman.

———————————————————————————

You can stay in any PointBreaks hotel for 5,000 Priority Club/IHG points. If you already have 5,000 Priority Club/IHG points in your account then you can buy increments of 10,000 points for $70 as described below.

If you don’t have points yet Priority Club sells 5,000 points for $67.50 or you can instantly transfer 5,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Priority Club.

After you have 5,000 points in your account there is a “trick” to buy additional points for 0.7 cents each.  You can book any cancellable 15,000 point hotel stay using cash and points for $70+5,000 points.

All you need to do is search for reward points stays in any metro area and you should find a hotel for 5,000 points+$70 like the one below. The room is normally 15,000 points but with IHG points and cash option you can buy 10,000 points for $70 when making a reservation.  Just select the 5,000 points+$70 option to complete this purchase.

The $70 that you pay is nonrefundable so when you cancel the hotel you will actually get back 15,000 points in your account.  Effectively you are buying 10,000 Priority Club points with this method for $70 or 0.7 cents per points.

Be sure to click on the rules during the checkout process to make sure that the room is fully refundable (almost all are):

In other words the cost per each 5,000 point PointBreaks stay is just $35 once you already have 5,000 initial points in your account.

-Holiday Inn Express and Suites New Brunswick, NJ

This is not clear at all. Can someone without any points go to the IC of San Francisco for $67.50 a night?

Dan

@Henry frisch:
Of course not. You can use the trick in this post to stay at the hotels that are listed on the current PointBreaks list which is linked to in the post.

Ther is another trick that one can use. Amex reservations can be cancelled and the points would still be credited to the IHG account. It does not ALWAYS work,but, I have had luck with this many times!

ICSL

If I buy points from them, do they go into my account immediately or will I need to wait in order to make a reservation? (and possibly miss this deal?)

Dan

@ICSL:
The refund trick posts the points to your account immediately. Just logout and back in again.

ICSL

Unless there is a trick to get them immediately, I got the following email:

Dear ICSL,

Thank you for your recent purchase of IHG® Rewards Club points. You will be notified when the IHG® Rewards Club points have been credited to your account. Your purchase is summarized below:

ICSL

ooops I misread what you wrote.
I missed the “REFUND” trick.

I guess I screwed up.

ICSL

Update.
I called them up, and they “pre-released” the points and made my reservation over the phone as a 1 time courtesy.

Thx Dan!!!

Yossi

The Holiday Inn in Askelon was only 10,000 points normally, and no one was interested, goes down to 5,000 and sells out in 3 hrs 🙂

Dan

@ICSL:
Nicely done.

@Yossi:
It’s still bookable for 5K.

Thanks a ton for the Holiday Inn Ashkelon tip!!! I live in Ashkelon and my folks are coming from the US to visit us for Sukkot. We snagged 9/26-9/28 if anyone from here will be around… The hotel is actually pretty nice, although not exactly in the middle of everything. Much better than the Dan Gardens in my humble opinion.

re

any do’s?

Dan

Roughly how often does IHG come out with a new list? In the past is this something they do once a year, or several times a year. Thanks

Elliott

Dan

I noticed the IHG Card from Chase comes with 60,000 points and a free night every year, is that a good deal?

petzel

I don’t see the intercontinental in Kiev on the list in the linky? is it sold out

Smelly1

They removed holiday inn ashkelon

When they give you points for staying in the Hotel, is it better to accept them or have them give you United miles instead?

Last time I stayed at an IHG hotel, I received 3140 IHG points for 2 nights, I had 2 rooms and they only gave me for one room so I contacted them and they gave me for the 2nd room 628 United miles instead of the IHG points.

Morris

Is there any risk of getting “blacklisted” by IHG for abusing the 10000 point trick too many times?

stg

I just came back from a stay at the CP Boston (which also ran out of discounted nights a while ago) for 3 nights with PointBreaks. And I combined this deal with the recent Daily Getaways deal (15k for $90). I booked it on my father’s platinum account, but all I really got for the status was a higher floor and slightly extended checkout which I didn’t use anyway. Add $9/night for parking and it was $117 for 3 nights in (or at least near – <15 minutes to downtown) Boston. HArd to beat that.
