Dan I know this way off topic but I tried forums with no success

what is the consensus for best way to use points for car rentals? I have Amex, ultimate rewards or is best to pay with credit card like world barlcays and get reimbursed.

and second if I use points or Barclay’s how can make use of united explorer card for insurance coverage.

I am trying to help out a friend. thanks Dan

Dan

@Moishebatchy:
If only we had someplace worth eating out at 😛

@Davidd:
Barclays will be best.
You can rent on United and then switch it to Barclay’s when you return the car with no damage.

Davidd

@Dan: what if there is damage?

Dan

Lol…then just don’t switch it, duh!

Moishebatchy

@Dan: Issi’s/Kinneret ain’t bad for a Friday lunch… unless you can talk Chef Dave into opening on Fridays. 😛

Davidd

@Dan: but Im trying not to pay for car rental.(cost will run a hefty $350-450$) My point is that with Barclays card I have the points to get reimbursed If I pay with United explorer card then what?

lastly which site do you recommend to search car rentals ; any coupons or discount codes? thanks Dan

SRS

Does dining include stores like Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks?

Dan

@Davidd:
Are you kidding me?
If you wreck a car you’re going to be worried about the $300 rental fee?
And how often are you damaging cars? I’ve been renting for 10 years and have yet to damage a rental car.

In any normal scenario you’ll switch to Barclays and be done with it.

@SRS:
Yes.

Dont judge till you read.

its not for me.. but a coworker asked if he can get Wendy’s and get the 3.21 points..

Njmacman

I think the points only work at Kosher establishments. 😉

sam

@dan would it work if I order a gift card from prime grill’s website?

we need consumer pressure, to switch to first sat nite of the week, or sun.

Friday doesnt work for erev shabbos observance.

I’m planning to advance-pay for a sheva brachos I’m making… Hoping to get the 3.21 points when they run my card on the first Friday of September. I’ll let you know how that works out.

Smarter Than a Fifth Grader

Oops… I meant the first Friday of November, not September.
