Tens of thousands of people check out DansDeals.com every day. If a deal isn’t applicable for you just skip it and move on to the next one…

Redbox.com

Use the following code on Redbox.com to reserve a free 1 night movie rental at any Redbox location (Exp: 07/24 at 11:59pm CDT): HGNN77TT

You can use this code multiple times in separate transactions even with the same credit card.  The rental will be due 9pm local time the day after you reserve.

argo

That code will take $1.20 off any movie, making standard movies free, Blu-Rays 30 cents, and video games 80 cents.

A great thing about Redbox is that you can pick one up before a flight and return it anywhere nationwide.

Other codes that are valid at the kiosk only (you can’t use them to reserve a movie), don’t expire, and are valid once per credit card include:
DVDNIGHT
DVDONME

Additional user cards that have a unique credit card number and gift cards will also work for those codes…which means you should never be paying for a rental.

Love it!

@yehuda:
Yehuda – what is your problem with ppl voicing their opinion especially on a blog moderated and run by benai torah??

Dan

@Bob:
There’s no problem with people’s opinion as long as the tone is respectful.

This is a blog that is read by Jews and Gentiles alike. Nobody has a monopoly over the content. And I could never possibly satisfy everyone all the time, so I aim to have a content mix that will satisfy everyone some of the time.

As a commenter noted last time, the mullah’s in Iran tried to impose their belief on others as depicted in the historical nature of Argo (pictured in the post). But it’s not a Jewish trait to shove one’s personal beliefs or spiritual level on society at large.

“gift cards will also work for those codes”

Dan, MC/Visa gift cards haven’t worked for some time when checking out DVDs at my local kiosk. When I’ve tried to use gift cards there’s a message something like…you card can not be verified. Are gift cards still working for you or others?

Normal credit cards work fine.

Lakewood

I am proud to say I just reserved a movie for tonight. Thanks Dan!

Josh

Thanks Dan!

Any suggestions for a good one?

josh

thanks for posting explanation many times people make the mistake of thinking this site only caters to one community although it is extremely helpfull more so then any other site everyone has to understand otherwise thank you

Leor

@dan i just came back from LA with the hotseats offer and picking up a free movie for tonight! Thanks so much for everything you save people thousands of dollars!!!
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Hi

Hi Dan,

Yes, you are correct. But think about all those that would normally not and because of this they are. That sounds a lot like lifne iver. Granted, you have a wide audience but you also need to remember where the priorities are.

Thanks

Dan

Do you honestly believe that someone who is holding on a spiritual level not to watch movies will sell out because there is a $1 coupon?!?!?

If their belief will be shaken over a $1 coupon then color me speechless.

martin

@yehuda:

yehuda = we definitely know your option

martin

@Dan:

What can happen are ppl that were brought up that its unexpected will feel that everyones watching movies then it must be nothing wrong

And admit its hard to hold shmiras anyim on “most” movies

speechless

You do not belong in lakewood, please move to your neighbor-atlantic city.

@martin:
Dude, this is just a deal site. Nobody is taking life lessons from a free movie rental deal.

Genius

Movies are a waste of time. People only watch when they are depressed or just not happy with themselves or their life. Watching will not improve any aspect of their lives. If u want change u will have to actively work hard and steady to achieve any improvement in your lives.

klerring, maybe

@Dan:
“This is a blog that is read by Jews and Gentiles alike. Nobody has a monopoly over the content. And I could never possibly satisfy everyone all the time, so I aim to have a content mix that will satisfy everyone some of the time.”
Dan, so then why don’t you post McDonald deals or deals from burger king etc., you have many gentile and nonreligious readers? The answer is obvious – because its below “your” standard. Movies are obviously not below your standards (as you copied a screenshot of your rental). That being said, I think the problem that some may have, is that movies are not below your standard. You are considered to be the “frumest” deal blogger and as such are expected to have the highest standard.
i hope this didn’t violate your term of “There’s no problem with people’s opinion as long as the tone is respectful”.

love all the work you do, yasher koach.

mendy

“But it’s not a Jewish trait to shove one’s personal beliefs or spiritual level on society at large.”

“on society at large” yes, but the issue is not about humanity. The issue is specifically regarding the Jewish readership, since A. they are the major market and B. The owner is one as well.

Having said that, minding other yidden’s business IS a Jewish trait. Remember “all of Israel is responsible for one another”? Were the ones who coined that phrase “shovers”? From a genuine Torah perspective – one that has not been tainted by secularism – “minding your own business” is not a Torah value at all.

If Lubavitchers would not care about the spiritual level of others the world would be missing outreach all over the globe.

Dan

@martin:
People will take lessons in hashkafa from a deal blog? Really?

@Genius:
Perhaps, but why are you wasting your life commenting about wasting your life?
Do you think people who do watch movies will read your comment and decide to stop watching because of your constructive comment?

@klerring, maybe:
Treife food is something that can never be made into something positive.

On the other hand most rational people will admit that there are parve movies and documentaries out there. I’m not here to advocate or debate ethics here. If you are someone who watches movies enjoy the code. If you’re not then just ignore this just as you would ignore any other deal that doesn’t apply to you.

@mendy:
Have you seen the analytics to decide that most DansDeals readers are Orthodox Jews?

Even if you have (cool!) Do you not think there are not any parve movies or video games out there?
Maybe not for someone on your level but there are perhaps worse things out there?

The internet itself has good and bad-it’s only up to you to decide how you will use it…

@aish tamid:
Mendy, right? Listen, if you’re going to pat yourself on the back by pretending to be someone else you may want to make the comment from a different computer.
Yeah, those kinds of stats I am able to see.

Non Of You Business

@Dan:
Dan,

You tell Bob “There’s no problem with people’s opinion as long as the tone is respectful.” Yet Bob was responding to the following from Yehuda

“which MORONS are going to start with their opinions this time”

Dan

@Non Of You Business:
I haven’t censored anyone’s opinion on this post.

I ask that people be respectful and realize that it’s a big world out there reading this stuff but more than that I can’t ask for.

Amy

I have no clue what 80% of these words even mean (not Jewish) but Dan, your reply made me laugh out loud. Thanks for all you do to save us all money!

Dan

@Amy:
I’d love to jump into the brain of someone besides for an “ultra-orthodox jew” reading the comments on this stuff…I can’t even imagine what this looks like.

shreknit

I called it Dan 🙂
To all those frumer than hashem commenting, If your so shtark get off the internet. Secondly your making a fool of yourselves and a chilul hashem by the ignorant, dogmatic and bossy comments. Like dan said no one is going to start watching a movie for a dollar coupon obviosuly and whoever is going to use this already watches movies. If your so concerned for the wellfare of our people go out and put teffilin on someone or do something pro active to help a brother out. Making negative comments and rebuking in todays day in age makes people worse off. Heres a little life tip and its FREE, try looking at things positively it will change your life!
Dan im happy you posted this good call!

klerring, maybe

@Dan:
@martin:
no, but if i try to raise my children that movies are a no no and then they see on an otherwise reputable blog (frumwise) that so many frum people do watch movies it makes my chinuch much harder. don’t forget, many children browse your site too. in this day and age it’s difficult for parent to assur everything and i would hate for dansdeals to have to be one of them.
@klerring, maybe:
you are not addressing my point. the opinion that all movies are assur is certainly not every frume persons shita however at the same time its not just a handful of greasy bmg youngerlites shita. it is a shita amongst many frum yidden (no need to argue exactly how many, lets just agree that its not just a מיעוט שאינו מצוי). that being the case, you are being held up to the highest standard whether you accept that responsibility or not. an example would be, how rebaim in yeshiva always say that a yeshiva bachur has an achrayis when he is out of yeshiva to be the best role model for the world because the world expects more from a yeshiva bochur whether or not he accepts that responsibility. the same applies to yidden on a whole to the world at large, yiden are held up by goim to a higher standard.
@mendy:
again you didnt adress his point. he was arguing on your opinion that ““But it’s not a Jewish trait to shove one’s personal beliefs or spiritual level on society at large.””. his argument (i think well made) is that it is.
@aish tamid:
lol 🙂 . too funny.

mendy

aish tamid is my wife. Those kind of stats you cant see. i hope.

Lgotticollection

You all have too much time on your hands!

aish tamid

I got on the computer right after Mendy must have commented and i saw the comment. I happened to like it so I gave it the thumbs up.

Dan, when all the finagling is done, the fact is that it is wrong to put up content that is problematic according to halacha. Even if the majority of your readership is not frum – very many are.

Even if there are pareve movies, five times as many are prohibited according to halacha.

“Why are you on the internet?” does not address the point.

You say, for just a buck? Look, the fact that it is being promoted on a site run by a frum guy is what could get someone more than the buck. Also, you are legitimizing it. Again, even if in your own mind you think “pareve”, not everyone else does.

In matters of halacha its best not to trust our own opinions since they are probably prejudiced and subjective. Best to ask a rabbi who has no vested interest.

All the best,

Mendel’s better half

Joe

@Genius: Help me, genius!

Bob

@everyone – I was just responding to Yehuda’s silly attitude.
Boy did i open a can of worms…

goodsamaritan

@klerring, maybe: and @everyone else here

when did dan ever claim that his site is reputable (from a frum perspective)? you can make that judgement based on what dan posts – if it’s not reputable in your judgement and you don’t want to be subjected to the harsh reality that not all jews fit into your dogmatic and artificially constructed schema of the perfect human, then don’t go to this site. if you’re concerned that your kids are going to this site and are subjected to this horrible reality, then you should consider yourself very fortunate that dansdeals.com is the worst thing you can conceive of your kids seeing on the internet.

goodsamaritan

btw dan – this stupidity is really entertaining, so please keep posting movie deals

meshugener

@goodsamaritan:

Ha ha, good idea.
I visit DansDeals for deals, but sometimes it turns out to be an entertainment site.

As Dan said, I can’t imagine what a non-ultra orthodox Jew thinks reading these comments. They must thing we’re off our minds.

UncleMo

@meshugener:

The last people who were so very concerened what the Non-Orthodox people “thought” of us were the “Reform Jews”. They attempted to change the laws of our holy Torah so we can “fit in better”. Today there is not much Jew left in the Reform and they know it themselves. Regardless of what’s right in this subject, I don’t beieve the thoughts of Non-Orthodox or gentiles of us and our laws/customs should be of such great concern, it definitely shouldn’t be a deciding factor. It didn’t seem to work very well in Germany, the birthplace of Reform Judaism. Hitler Ym’s didn’t quite differentiate between Orthdox, Non-Orthodox, Reform………
