One addition to the above. Partner awards cannot be changed without a fee once booked and there is a penalty of 15,000 km to redeposit the miles in addition to the cancellation fee.

I would suggest checking availability to Israel before transferring miles.Currently, you can only use them via British Air or Iberia and Malev-which seems to have stopped its nyc-budapest service. Neither of them had availability when I needed it even though it was off season.
