The Grand Hyatt Kauai, one of my favorite resorts on one of my favorite places in the world, is having a pretty nice sale.

Daily rates from now through 10/31 are just $299 and from 11/01 through 12/23 are just $279.  After that rates go back up to the standard $459 per night.

Tax adds 13.42% and there is also a $25/day resort fee, making the $279 rate become $341.44 all-in.  The normal $459 rate is $545.60 all-in, so this is a savings of more than $200 per night.

Of course you can also stay free with no blackout dates, no tax, and no resort fees with award nights by opening a card like Chase Hyatt, which gives 2 free nights worldwide for spending $1 and Platinum elite status which gives you room upgrades and free internet. Plus if you already have Hyatt elite status (or are elite with another chain to match to Hyatt) you also get suite upgrades when you apply for the card.
Of course you can also stay for free with Ultimate Rewards points from Chase cards such as Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card Visa, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card World Mastercard, Freedom Visa, Freedom Mastercard, Ink Bold, Ink Plus, Ink Classic, or Ink Cash.

The Grand Hyatt Kauai is a top-tier category 6 hotel, and would require 22,000 points per night in a standard room or 33,000 points per night in a suite. Ultimate Rewards points transfer instantly to anyone’s Hyatt account at a 1:1 ratio.

There is a $75 annual fee on the Chase Hyatt CC. Can I charge the minimum and cancel the card to avoid the annual fee – and yet still be able to use the nights earned??

@Chase Hyatt CC:
I did that

If you cancel a card within 30 or 60 days you can cancel and get a refund.
The nights will post within a week of spending $1.

Stayed there 5 nights in April in a suite… two on the Hyatt card, and 3 with those crazy Capital One matching miles. LOVED every second of it. Would go back in a heartbeat.

I just wonder why so many people don’t want to pay the one-time annual fee to get the 2 free nights. Honestly, $75 is well worth those two free nights (we used them at the Park Hyatt Vendome) and it is even well worth the 1 extra night you get annually for keeping the card open (There are any number of Hyatts in the category 4 range that would cost much more than $75 for a night). I understand wanting to get a deal, and I have no problem with cancelling after the first year, but at the point that you just get the card for the 2 free nights and then cancel it to get your annual fee back as well, it seems to me that it’s pretty close to stealing from the card issuer (and the ding you take on your own credit only hurts you in the end).

I’m actually currently there and am staying using my miles. (33k a night for a suite) I tried to book wwith cash and upgrade to suite but they told me the regular room price becomes 450 if u upgrade. So 22 equals 450 now for me. Did I do good herr dan?

@yakov:

We are here as well. We used our 2 free nights and got upgraded to the ocean view suite with Club access !

We just returned from a wonderful stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai. The Grand Club is great with plenty of food offerings. If you get one of the 5 Garden Suites – opt for 1038, which has a magnificent view of the ocean! We had two suites for our stay.

@Yos:
Did I pass you and your wife on the elevator? I had a tray of food and drinks from the Grand Club and you were asking for things to do in Kauai?
