Just figured I’d throw this out there.

Costco has their 3 pound bags of Kirkland Atlantic Salmon on sale through 08/05 for just $15.99 per bag ($5.33/pound). If you haven’t had it before you get about 7 individually wrapped salmon filets. Perfect if you’re an Orthodox Jew like myself (they are certified OU kosher) and you aren’t eating any meat this week! Just grilled some yesterday and it was delicious as always, with no fishy taste at all.

The regular price on these fluctuate, for a while they had been climbing as high as $26.99/bag, but of late they settled back down to $19.99/bag.

These are also great when you’re in Hawaii and looking for some kosher food as each of the main islands has at least one Costco and prices for the most part are the same as they are back on the mainland, something that can’t be said for other stores in Hawaii like Whole Foods, Walmart, Kmart, or Safeway.

There is a limit of 3 bags per transaction, but that’s a limit per transaction, not per member.  These will stay fine in your freezer for many many months.

hi

Do u get also tail slices ? Isn’t fresh tastier ? (Get them @ 7.99 fresh)

Dan

@hi:
Just center cuts. No skin to deal with, just tear open the individual package and you have incredible tasting fish right from your freezer with no bones or fishy taste.
It’s a steal at this price.

Sunny

You can’t compare it to fresh fish.

FRESH (not Costco frozen)Salmon fillet’s this week at Empire Kosher in CH for $4.99/lb!!! (no, I have zero affiliation with EK)

Sorry Dan, I just couldn’t resist this one, didn’t mean to go back to that old argument if Costco membership is worth it (Vs. KRM, remember that?), but here’s a perfect example!

If you live in CH, why would you DRIVE to Costco (as opposed to CLV, there are no “cheap Costco gas stations”), PAY MEMBERSHIP, and get a more expensive price for FROZEN salmon?!

(Yeah, I know about the $20 non-sale purchase stuff, and in Costco you have to pay annual membership. Besides, your Erev Shabbos shopping would anyways prob. hit over $20).

Again, I still do prefer KRM (and the new Gourmet Glatt across the st. is also pretty nice), but $5/lb for salmon is a great deal, especially just in time for the nine days.

BTW, little secret for those who are not aware, much of the time, specials in these stores that are in the meat/fish dept, are already marked with their sale prices, so you’d get the sale price even if you don’t have minimum purchase!

EK is expensive

@Yidel: How much do you pay for a case of seltzer at EK vs Costco? Its pretty much double.

Joe

“fresh” simply means they have thawed it out for you. Salmon is frozen on the boats when caught. Same thing goes for shrimp.

I have to disagree with you guys. I am of the opinion that Costco Frozen Salmon is one of the best salmons (possibly the best) that I have ever had – much better than most, if not all, fresh salmons. Try it and youll agree. Its incredible. And by the way, the pieces are very large and the meat is very hearty so you get full from one piece.

MoshStat

can you buy it on there website ?

cali

I think the frozen costco salmon has a powdery fishy taste and I would not buy it or take it if you gave it to me for free

shloimy

doesnt the chabad there have a take out?

Adam

They may be kosher but these farmed fish are full of toxins and are unhealthy to eat.

Ben

just went to Costco in Lakewood. when they scanned the Salmon it rang up at 26.

I guess it was only a local deal (there was no fake Sign by the fish either

Dan

@Ben:
It’s a national deal and in the current national coupon book (though no coupon is required). My guess is that you picked up the wrong salmon.

ShmuliT

Got 3 bags today.
Thanks.

Ben

@ShmuliT:

Thanks for this post. When I saw it in the coupon book, I just glossed over it. It never would have occurred to me that it was certified kosher if not for this post.

Great taste, large portions.
