Doesn’t Get Much Better Or Easier Than This…

Update: Chase has let me know that sometime on Monday my link for the United card below will no longer work. I have no idea what’s up, but if you want to get the sweetest signup bonus offer that’s out there today (see below) then now’s a good of a time as ever to go for it and bear in mind that with a 2bm/3bm you can get more Chase cards with no additional credit pulls.

    @yoss:
    Can you please match me to the offer for 55K miles and a $50 statement credit for adding a user and making a purchase.

    @Anybody Know?:
    You can always apply and have them approve it by closing the older card if they won’t give you both.

    @Explorer:
    I have had dozens of these cards, with 4 years history you should have no problem.
    Worst case, you’ll just have to call reconsideration to get it approved:

    @Anonymous:
    Because getting 65K requires you to spend $25,000 in a calendar year.
    And you’ll automatically get the extra 10K on top of the 55K if you do spend $25,000 in a calendar year.

    Hi Dan,

    Regarding getting the first checked bag free with the united explorer card.

    Originally, one rep told me that it only works if i buy the airline ticket through them, i.e. i call them up and they book the ticket. Then, later, another rep told me this wasn’t true, for their department doesn’t even book tickets at all! All i needed was to pay the cost of the ticket with the card, no matter where or how i purchased it i.e. United.com, Orbitz, etc.

    My question to you is,
    1) Do you have any info on the matter?
    2) Say the latter was true, how do i go about and actually get the bag checked in free?
    3) When redeeming miles, does paying the $2.50 fee with the card give you the same benefit (first bag free)?

    Thanks.

    They approved united almost immediately once I verified my info with a $23K credit line, and then I called back to speak with someone else about the BA card. She said it was declined bc I applied for 2 cards at once, but I asked if she can do anything and she said she can split the $23K credit line between the two cards…and then she approved me.

    That was super-fast, I have had probably signed up for 20-30 cards over my life for points and never even tried the reconsideration phone call.

    For Curious: for some types of accounts they have something called consolidation where they combine your credit on one card- eliminating the need to pay a fee on two cards in the future with similar benefits. I am thinking of doing that as well since Chase told me that they cant upgrade me to an INK bold because one is cash and one is credit. Having the visa and master card just doesn’t make sense any,ore especially since the club card has no transaction fees and my old Continental card does. i am only waiting to see if it affects my credit rating to close/consolidate to one account.

    Whereas the other mileage cards seem to have some use for cash (pay your mortgage) or shopping (like Lands End), this UNited card seems to have no reasonable value other than purchasing united tickets (getting half points for restaurant.com restaurants is not reasonable) and even then, when I tried using them for a flight to Israel or Ft. Lauderdale, the choices they gave me were ridiculous – triple flight changes, some in Arab lands that would never tolerate a Jewish infidel. Are these points marketable in any other way?

    Dan:

    I received my card and I realized that I applied for the United Club instead of the United Explorer. If I send them a request to match will they honor it?

    I have the UAL MileagePlus Explorer card so I did what everyone is saying: 1) open up a new UAL MileagePlus account, 2) apply for this card last week with my new UAL MileagePlus member #. I haven’t applied for a CC since last year. Excellent credit. I received “we’ll notify you in 10 days” instant result. I called Reconsider Line & they indicated since I already have the MileagePlus Card I couldn’t get it again. How is everyone else doing it? What did I do wrong? Thanks everyone!

    I applied for the United Mileage Plus Card (got it with no fee first year) and they said they need ten days to see if I’m approved. Do I just wait?

    Dan, according to your update, these links were to stop working over a week ago, yet it would seem i can still apply. Should I? Do you expect the 25K mile match to continue to be available?

    thanks for your time

    Dan, I applied for the Chase United Visa for my wife and I . We both gor leters that “we noticed u already have a Untied account ending in 6453″ which is last 4 of credit card number not my United miles acount number. Should I call them and tell them I need the Untied MC and ones I have are visa or is the sign up bonus only on the United VISA? I looked around the site and couldnt find if bonus was on both. Please advise buddy. Thanks
