HOT!!! Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Chase Visa Signature Card: Get 2 Free Flights!

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Chase Visa Signature Card Linky

For a limited time you can  get 50,000 points when you make your first purchase on the card, enough for 2 for free flights.  In fact it is enough for $950 of free flying on Southwest, so you can  stretch out those points for as many as 15 free flights with Southwest’s low prices.

You can use the points for yourself or book award tickets for anyone else you want to give a ticket to!

Plus Southwest allows you to cancel an award flight and redeposit the points in your account for future use without any penalties!

————————————————————————————————————

Southwest’s new Rapid Rewards program launched earlier this year.  With the new program you earn points based on how much you spend on your airfare and the type of fare purchased.  Not so good for folks who buy cheap tickets, but what does this mean for their credit card?  I did some investigation into it and it’s actually pretty good!

If you still have credits in the old program you can transfer increments of 1,200 new points into 1 credit under the old rules.

The new points won’t ever expire as long as you have activity every 24 months.

With the new program you can redeem points for any seat on any flight.  For the regular “wanna get away” fare it costs 60 points for each dollar of airfare.  In practical terms this means for example:

A one-way Cleveland-Baltimore flight on 08/24 is $69.70 with tax.
It can also be bought for 3,540 points plus $2.50 tax.
So 3,540 points gets you a value of $67.20 ($69.70 airfare less the $2.50 tax required on the points ticket)
So each point is worth 1.9 cents (67.20/3,540), valid for redemption on all flights.

The value per point will depend on your route, but points always seem to be worth more than 1.8 cents each.

The Southwest card comes with a 50,000 point signup bonus, which at 1.9 cents per point is worth $950 towards Southwest flights just for opening the card!
There is a $99 annual fee but they give 6,000 points every anniversary that you have the card, which is worth $114 towards Southwest flights!

You get 1 point per dollar on regular purchases, which is equal to a rebate of 1.9%.
You get 2 points per dollar on Southwest purchases, including hotel and car rentals via Southwest, which is equal to a rebate of 3.8%

Plus you get a free companion pass if you earn 110,000 points in a year from any source, including earnings from credit card bonuses and credit card spending! If you earn 110,000 Southwest points for example by 08/01/11 the pass will be good until 12/31/12. The pass allows you to bring a companion with you for free when you fly Southwest, even if you are flying on a free ticket!

Southwest now flies to LaGuardia and Newark!

And as always, Southwest:
-Gives 2 free checked bags per passenger.
-Does not charge change fees to switch your flight. Whether you are on a paid or an award flight you can change without penalty!
-Does not charge a cancellation fee to cancel your flight (you will get Southwest credit for the full amount paid, even on non-refundable wanna get away fares) or to cancel and redeposit your award flight.
-Refunds the fare difference if the price of your flight goes down after you buy it, just call to get the credit at any time!

    hi,
    this is probably a dumb question but when you talk about the “3 browser method”, does that mean we can get 3 of this card? is there a downside to doing that? and if you can do that, i assume that means when they ask if you have existing chase username you just say no and open up 3 different usernames?
    thanks a lot!

    A $99 fee for a $950 bonus seems very worthwhile to me!
    Plus it gets you a good chunk of the way towards companion pass status!

    Plus they give you $114 of free flights every year if you keep the card open.

    Dan,
    Sara asked about amazon payments. Basically you pay your husbands checking account so it doesnt cost you any money and you dont have to lay out any money. Is there a problem to do this with $10000? Buying Amex gift cards will still mean I need to lay out $10000 this month. With so many new cards open its a lot to spend in a short time.
    Thanks

    @Anshel:
    No, these are Southwest points. They can’t be transferred to other airlines.

    @um:
    Sure, Chase reconsideration is excellent. If you offer to move part of a credit line from an older card or to close down an older card they can almost always get your card approved.

    @noah:
    Point don’t expire, provided you have any activity (earn or use) in your account in the past 24 months.
    This is more generous than most airlines policies of 18 months.

    @Dave:
    Actually there are a number of flights you can fly without a connection.
    From LaGuardia they fly nonstop to Baltimore and Chicago.
    (Short haul flights like those are also a great value with Southwest points, unlike with regular miles where short-haul flights are a very poor value)

    From Newark that fly nonstop to Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, S Louis, and Phoenix.

    Either way you get 2 free bags and free changes with Southwest, so it does make sense for many people to take a connection.

    @Tzipi:
    With this card you only need to spend $1 to get the points.
    Assuming you’re talking about other cards, Amazon payments doesn’t charge to receive the first $1,000 per month of credit card payments. More on that on http://www.DansDeals.com/forums

    @Mike:
    Sure!

    Dan, if you are constantly opening up Credit Cards under your name, what is an adequate amount of time to wait to open up the next card. Meaning, you cant open up four cards in one month, can u? How long should you spread it out?

    Thank You Dan! Besides doing a $1000 a month to amazon payments do you have any other ideas how I can spend the money(for other cards) but not have to really lay out all that money?
    I have 6 new cards for me and my husband in the last short while that I need to put money on to get the points- thats close to $11000 in 3 months.
    Thanks again

    Only issue I have with southwest… Is flying out of new York or New Jersey(EWR) requires you to change planes, if your flying let’s say to Florida or California..but if your going to Baltimore or Washington . It’s perfect

    Hello,

    Just a couple of questions. I signed up for the SW biz card and the regular SW card and was approved for the biz card but rejected for the other. The reason was that they said I had too many Chase cards although I did not have any Chase card previous to this. So I called and was told I was approved and they would be sending out my card. I just activated my SW biz card and made a purchase today with it.

    So I have two questions.

    I have been reading that you must have 110,000 per calendar year.

    1) Does that means since I activated the card today and made the first purchase that the first 50k will count toward this past year 2011?

    2) My other question is how would you suggest that I get the other 10k points I need to qualify. Right now I only have 800 additional points. I read you transfered them from other mile accounts. So what would you suggest I do?

    Thanks for your blog….

    Signed

    Newbie
