Have You Gotten Any Free Travel Items From A Project Fi Airport Kiosk?

Google’s Project Fi is pretty awesome. Many people use it domestically, though I’m on a shared Verizon plan with unlimited everything for $30/month, so it’s not compelling for me to use in the USA.

But I use Project Fi extensively when traveling abroad. 4G LTE data is the same $10 per GB everywhere in over 135 countries. That’s a bargain for true high-speed data. You can make phone calls for 20 cents/minute or you can make phone calls over the data network with Google Voice. The line itself costs just 67 cents per day and you can place your plan and number on hold as needed. I’ve used it in places from Israel to Svalbard to the UAE. You can view supported countries here.

If you signup with this referral link we’ll each get a $20 statement credit.

Apparently this is old news, but it’s still news to me. Project Fi has travel trolleys in select airports:
BUR – Burbank Terminal A, Gate A3
MDW – Chicago Midway Terminal 1, between Gate A5 & A3
MSP – Minneapolis Terminal 1, Concourse G
ORD – Chicago O’Hare Terminal 3, between Concourse K and H
PHL – Philadelphia Terminal F, just prior to the first gate
SEA – Seattle Concourse C, across from Gate C10
SJC – San Jose Terminal B, across from Gate 25
SMF – Sacramento Terminal B, across from Gate 12
STL – S. Louis Terminal 2

If you have Project Fi you can go to the vending machine kiosk and get a free travel item, including a USB-C cable, travel socks, a luggage tag, a sleep kit with an eye mask and ear plugs, or a deck of playing cards.

If you don’t have Project Fi you can answer a trivia question to get a free travel item.

You can also Tweet your experience with #FlyWithFi and the best entries will win a Pixel. Just don’t try to resell it if you win 😉

Would I need to be on WIFI to make calls using google voice? Also, does this work in Israel?

Welder

How does Project Fi compare with Verizon’s TravelPass? I find the latter super convenient.

Rabbim

Do you need to buy their phone?

Anonymous

@Dan: 512MB/DAY is enough for 97% people.

Dan why would you post a deal not in NY . like the whole world is from NY . except during winter break we visit miami or whenever dna posts a price mistake . then we go there

Rebyid

@Anonymous:

512 MB will get you between 10 minutes and 2 hours streaming on Netflix, depending on settings. Might be a drag.

Dan, how do you get Verizon for $30/line unlimited data??

Anon

@Anonymous: In your world 512MB/Day may be enough for 97% people, but there are many in OUR world that require more.

Is there any way of getting Fi if you live in Israel?

Kugel

I just went to the website and it says the service only works on Google smartphones.

Roberto

Whats voice and data reliability? Are there times when no network is available – but would be available on regular cell? Im traveling to Europe does it ever use Network space – or is it mostly on wifi?

Anonymous

@Dan: I probably could get a phone. I was more concerned with if it’s possible to have the FI service with an address in Israel.

How did you get Verizon for $30 a month? I’m paying that now for MetroPCS. Can I still get such a deal with Verizon?
