Award tickets nonstop from North America to Israel are notoriously hard to find. “Hybrid points” are often the best bet for Israel.

When Air Canada started selling their new seasonable Montreal-Tel Aviv route it was available for saver awards on almost all dates in coach and business class.

I posted that information and all of the award space was wiped out within a day.

Air Canada has moved their flights in September and October from Montreal to Tel Aviv from Thursday to Wednesday and from Tel Aviv to Montreal from Friday to Thursday.

While flights before the date change have limited coach award space and don’t have any business class award space, currently all of the new flights have saver award space in coach and business class! Not only that, but there’s enough saver award space for the whole family!

Sample business class itinerary from NYC:

There are at least 8 coach and business saver awards from Montreal to Tel Aviv on:
September 6, 13, 20, 27
October 4, 11

There are at least 8 coach and business saver awards from Tel Aviv to Montreal on:
September 7, 14, 21, 28
October 5, 12

Unfortunately, the seasonal route ends on October 16, so there are no Wednesdays or Thursdays on which to fly after Sukkos ends.

The flights from September 6-14 are operated by an A330. Business class on the A330 is lie-flat with a 1-1-1 configuration with direct aisle access for all seats.

The flights from September 20-October 12 are operated by a new 787 Dreamliner. Business class on the 787 is lie-flat with a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone configuration with direct aisle access for all seats. The configuration on this plane has received rave reviews. You can read more here.

Sample booking options:

-You can transfer miles from Chase Ultimate Rewards to United (1:1 ratio) instantly. United charges 85K in coach or 160K in business class for round-trip partner award flights to Israel. Awards can be cancelled for free within 24 hours. United never collects fuel surcharges. After 24 hours non-elites will pay $75 to cancel awards more than 60 before a flight or $125 within 60 days of a flight. Awards can be booked online. One way awards are available for half of the round-trip rate.

-Air Canada charges 80K in coach or 165K in business class round-trip and they’ll also tack on some $750 in taxes and fuel surcharges for Air Canada flights. Points transfer instantly (1:1 ratio) from AMEX. Transfers from Starwood (20K:25K ratio) can take 2-10 days. Awards can be booked online. One way awards are available for half of the round-trip rate.

Aegean charges a mere 60K miles in coach or 90K miles in business class round-trip and you’ll need even fewer Starpoints than that thanks to the Starwood 20K:25K transfer ratio. Factoring in a 25% discount that’s effectively 48K Starpoints in coach or 72K Starpoints in business class round-trip. They don’t charge fuel surcharges for Air Canada flights, taxes will be $88 from Montreal, or less from the USA. Transfers from Starwood can take 2-10 days. You can call Aegean to book at +30-21-0626-1000. One way awards are available for half of the round-trip rate.

Singapore charges 75K in coach or 115K in business class round-trip. But they’ll tack on $735 in taxes and fuel surcharges for Air Canada awards. You can transfer points from AMEX, Chase, or Citi at a 1:1 ratio, but it will take a day or 2 for points to show up. Transfers from Starwood (20K:25K ratio) can take 2-10 days. You can call Singapore to book at 1-312-843-5333. One way awards are available for half of the round-trip rate.

ANA charges just 65K miles in coach or 104K miles in business class round-trip. Best of all they don’t charge fuel surcharges for Air Canada flights, taxes will be $66 from Montreal, or less from the USA. Unfortunately it can take 1-3 days to transfer points from AMEX to ANA (1:1 ratio) and transfers from Starwood to ANA (20K:25K ratio) can take 2-10 days. Awards can be booked online, though flights with connections may need to be booked over the phone. One way awards are not available.
