@dan is the airport safe?

Anonymous

Will this work for reserve points?

Ben

I just flew Azerbaijan yesterday.

They are a very decent airline with a brand new plane (as Dan mentioned).

The airport in Baku is totally fine and actually a lot nice than most airports I’ve ever been to. As for security I didn’t feel afraid one bit. Didn’t see one turban or burka both on the plane and in the airport.

The name freaked me out when I first booked but I will say it’s a much better experience than most other stopovers I’ve taken to TLV. The one downside is that it’s a lot of flying time as opposed to Europe since you’re flying past Israel and then flying 3 hours back. Add that with a 2 hour layover you’re looking at 16 hours from when you leave JFK until you land in TLV…

jmz

It doesnt seem to be only this airline checking priceline and other airlines are popping up with around the same price

qsman

@Debby

No. Bring a stun gun or grenades since you seemed to have skipped most of the post that talks about the airport.

joe

Any purim dates?

Meir

Whats happens if there is a plane delay and the connection is missed
how long to the next flight to israel ?

Eli

@Meir
They only have Sunday and Tuesday flights to Israel

happy

i on the pricelne site. azerbajan airlines isn’t an option

Danny

Thanks Dan!
Just booked 3/4 – 3/12
I flew with Azerbaijan last July, and it was a great experience, comparing to other airlines. Airport is very safe. In fact, Azerbaijan is a friend of Israel.

Josh

Is this bookable with Sapphire Reserve points?

Motti

For those interested: If you an Israeli passport, you don’t need a visa to visit Azerbaijan. If you have a US passport and you fly with the direct flight JFK to Baku, you can get a visa on arrival.

Yakov

@Steve: Thanks !
i meant – usually the russian airlines coming out with good prices on the winter.
i found 592 via ukraine. is this considered a good price i should wait it “might” be cheaper

fr

which other airlines for this price?

montri al

CAUTION!!
THEYE ARE NOT CHANGABE OR RFUNDABLE (unless your credit card covers it)
Booked three tickets last summer, and forfeited all three because couldn’t travel on that date, and they wouldn’t allow any changes

Mo

3/12 is Purim.
If you are Jerusalem and fly back you might miss Purim which is on the 13th in Jerusalem, but on the 12th in USA

happy

These prices don’t show up for me with these dates. Lowest on this airline 748 or so

Yukel

Azerbaijan claim that it’s only 1 suitcase per person is that correct? @Dan

Dan

@happy:
Please post exactly which dates didn’t work for you.

@Yukel:
No, their website clearly states 2 per person if your flight includes travel to or from JFK.

judah

jan 21 jfk
jan 29 tel aviv
Doesnt work!!!

Dan

@judah:
29th has sold out.

Rina

How do u book a flight through the website?

Anonymous

@Mo: Almost all places in EY do Purim on the 14th of Adar.

KiWi

just booked for 5 passengers total $1,899
priceline.com was not working,
the airline’s website is actually cheaper, but they want passport info during booking,
i got them on cheaptickets.com just fine for less than priceline too

Nachman

The flight from BAKU TO TEL AVIV flies right over Syria. Did anyone realize that? Is there no reason for concern?

Herman the Magician

You HAVE to be kidding to fly on this airline. There is no way I would do it. I can’t believe that the pilots are as well trained as US pilots of even the Israeli pilots.
Furthermore,I do not want to be shot out of the sky by the Russians. Not worth it to save a few bucks. I’ll stick with El Al or United. My peace of mind is worth the extra fare.

Herman

Everything is fine until the Russians shoot at the plane.

kery

i would like to know if ther is any good dials for the begining of august

kery

is ther any number to contact

Eli

Hi Dan,

Booked for my wife and I as well as our 2 children for $1768!
Please advise if you have any knowledge in regards to safety as there seems to be conflicting reports in the comments section. Thanks!

Dan

It is perfectly safe and a very good airline.

People are ignorant, can’t fix that.

Charnie

I’m looking on Azerbaijan’s website for May ’17 fares. The prices are great, but it’s showing up for 1 piece of luggage in all fare ranges? Are they changing their luggage policy?

Leib

Hi Dan I feel I must reply to this posting

Your first posting was “friends don’t let friends fly spirit”. In your list of reasons you wrote “But I really don’t like what happens during irregular operations. They don’t have agreements with any other airlines, so when things go wrong they often can’t get you to where you need to go for an entire day, or even days.” This can’t be truer about Azerbaijan Airlines. I had the most horrific experience with this airline ever!! I will spear your readers all the details, but in short we were scheduled to take off from TLV to JFK with a stop in Baku on a Wed evening. after sitting on the flight for about 2 hours we were asked to disembark for a luggage identification. After waiting for hours it became clear there was no way for us to make the connecting flight to NYC. The guy who was working there needed to rebook us a different flight and literally was sitting there in the airport calling other airlines on his cell phone to try to get us on flights. He was waiting on hold like any standard consumer, to no avial. It took hours of work and the help of airport personnel (who we the passengers, not the airline solicited) to finally get us on the way. WE WERE STUCK IN THE AIRPORT FOR 27 HOURS WITH THREE KIDS UNTIL WE EVENTUALLY BOARDED A FLIGHT!!! Not only that, we had to fly through Turkey the day after there was a bomb in the airport, other wise we would have had to wait 4 days for another flight!!

So I say “Friends don’t let friends fly Azerbaijan Airlines”

Raphi

I bought a ticket yesterday and need to change the date. (I found another ticket which I will buy.)
However, I do not have any option to Cancel the reservation after clicking on the Print Itinerary in the confirmation email.

HOW DO I CANCEL THE TICKET?

Hershko

Is anyone flying feb 20-26 I want to fly those dates with my sister and would feel more comfortable if I knew other ppl from here will be on my flight

Hershko

Also, Dan does this flight fly over Syria or not?

Dan

@Raphi:
Call Priceline.
Or try another browser, Firefox, IE, etc.

Raphi

I tried Ie Edge, same thing. I was able to chat and cancel. Booked with new dates at same price. Thanks.

Shalom

@Nachman:
I actually thought the same thing, as the great circle path between Baku and Tel-Aviv is probably right through Syria. I looked at some recent flights on FlightAware, and they’ve been flying west through Georgia and then south through Turkey.

Mendy

@Leib: I was on that flight too. 35 hours until I took off. Did you ever receive compensation?

Traveler

Just booked on faredepot for $463. Thanks Dan

Leib

@Mendy:

No I didn’t they refused to pay!! Said it wasn’t their fault 🙁

Anonymous

@Leib:

Their staff at Ben Gurion airport is far from helpful or caring.
